My son 17 year old senior(1.8 catcher and switch hitter 3.7 gpa)has had a string of injuries and illness. The most recent is tommy John surgery which he might not be rehabbed in time for summer. He has only gotten a couple of months of visibility in the last 18 months(never 100%), which has led to some interest. He has been scared to reply because we were not sure what was going on with his arm. Iam not sure what to tell him, I know he can try to walk on somewhere. What other visibility can he get when already college age?

Your priorities should be seeing that your son fully recovers from TJS and is able to get into school without baseball.
You might want to consider a strong JUCO program at this time, would give your son time to get back to his old self (hopefully) and start school. I would begin contacting them asap. That most likely would be where he would get the best exposure.

Just a suggestion.
TPM has good advice. Son had similar issue senior year. Missed year due to Stress Fracture in pitching elbow. Had surgery in July after graduation. He only had small interest which disappeared once injury sidelined him.
We contacted several JUCO's and found one that offered a place to rehab and attend school. Coach said he would give him a chance to compete in Spring. He was cleared to start throwing in December and ended up one of the weekend starters. He received a scholarship this year and just committed to a D1 with a nice offer.
For us it has turned out ok. We knew elbow would be ready in the spring and just wanted a place to compete.
