Here is a nice article about Billy Ripken and Chris Gwynn, brothers of a couple of imminent HOFers.

I was reminded of the Carolina League (A) game when I saw Billy and heard the jeers that were thrown his way. I saw similar displays of bad conduct when Mickey Tresh and Pete Rose Junior came through town. They are some of baseball's uglier moments I can do without.

Have fun!

When Billy Ripken was playing for Baltimore and one loudmouthed fan after another rubbed his nose in his brother's success, he discovered the best retort was to acknowledge the obvious.

"There was always somebody in the front row yelling, 'You'll never be as good as your brother,'" Billy said. "And I'd turn around and say, 'Yeah, no kidding.'"

These truly are the players and people we should be discussing...and admiring, IMO.

Good points. I truly believe that the Bonds thing has been argued ad infinitum. Nobody is going to change anyone's mind at this point.

I saw Cal Ripken play in the big leagues when he was just a youngster in old Cleveland Stadium. He was indeed a great player. The iron man streak was a footnote in his career imho. He was a great player in his own right and any suggestion he was not a HOF'er without it is ludicrous.

Tony Gwynn I didn't get to see play too much since he was on the west coast and rarely on a contender. My impression of him is as a class act and obviously a great hitter. He talked about how Ted Williams changed his approach to hitting later in his career and how Williams had a big impact on him. Says a lot that even HOF'ers can still learn things during their careers.
Speaking of Tony Gwynn, in my day job I work on a number of websites owned by General Mills, and our Wheaties site has had a nice series on Tony Gwynn's "Fit To Win Challenge" leading up to his HOF induction.

I didn't create this particular Flash activity for Tony's 12-week challenge, though I do some other work on the Wheaties site. Tony lost 19 lbs in the 12 weeks. Hmmm-m-m, I think I need to take that challenge!
