I have been sitting out from games for roughly the last 10 days due to a dislocated finger on the throwing hand, and with the free time I've been caddying for about 4 hours a day. I extended my rest for a bit more because my elbow had been bothering me, but rest cleared that up well.

The only problem is that today, in my first return to throwing since I shut down (and started caddying regularly), I had intense pain in my shoulder. It was a shooting pain and ached after throwing. It hurt to extend my arm behind to me to throw and it hurt once my elbow was about even with my shoulder in the throwing motion.

I'm guessing this was caused from golf bags continually pushing down on my shoulder, but I haven't had this before in 5 years of it. Any suggestions as to what this injury could be?

Young man, while caddying may or may not have any cause as to why you're experiencing this unexplained pain and discomfort, I will offer this very wise and urgent advise to you.

No one on this board is a Sports orthopedic, and even if they were they would not diagnose what your problem is without seeing you in person. You will receive many "suggestions" as to what it may be but none of what you hear might not even be close.

Have your parents call as soon as they can to make an appt with a good Sports Orthopedic in your town, or town nearby. They are trained in this and can diagnose exactly what is wrong. I'd also suggest stop throwing and even caddying until you have answers. To continue on could only make things worse.

Good luck. Let us know what you find out.

YoungGunDad,

Thanks for the advice, and yes, I know that nobody here can give me a proper diagnosis, I am really looking for someone who has had a similar experience (carrying something on throwing shoulder leading to pain) to share how they dealt with it.

I plan on seeing a doctor before the end of the week, and I will post what happens there.
Update:

It's been 3 days since I started throwing and the pain is very minimal now. It seems like it really just needed to be loosened up after a while of no throwing. I think it might have just been locked into that position and throwing through it stretched it out. Now if this pesky elbow pain would go away (I had medial epicondylitis at the start of the season and I sat out for 3 or 4 weeks and now it's coming back....sigh )

as a scout i know what is happening your throwing to much without any recovery you need to ice your arm every night and put a sleeve on it when you sleep and take it easy for awhile dont go throw all out at one time go slow and stretch your shoulder pleny
Glad the shoulder pain is getting better. My son broke his finger earlier this season, we saw a sports ortho and he designed a cast so he could continue to throw. He said 2-3 weeks with NO throwing could cause a lot of shoulder pain/problems when you get back. Slow gradual stretching is a must.

As for the elbow, have you ever heard of cold laser therapy? Took my son for therapy in the beginning of his JV season, he had similar elbow pain as you describe. He had three treatments, it was not costly and pitched a great JV season! 1.51 era! See if anyone in your area does it. It may be worth checking into. Good Luck
My son was having tendonitis (sp?) or something similar going on in his right inner elbow area for over a year. He could only pitch one to two innings before it would start to bother him. Rest helped, but it eventually came back. We iced it all the time, but he still struggled. Then someone mentioned this cold laser therapy. We went to a chiropractor ( of all people!?!) he is the only one in our area who does it. I have since found out lots of local athletes have gone to see him.
After 2 weeks of 3 treatments, he pitched 5 complete games this past season had a 6-0 record and NO problems!!!!!

Here is a link I found for more info on it!
