My son ('07) may have interest in college programs from the mid-atlantic states (we're from new England) and I'd like to know which showcases in the mid-atlantic states are well attended by colleges?

What are the MUST showcases that colleges attend in VA, NC, SC, MD WV, etc....?

As always, thanks!

Baseball is life:

First off, like your moniker. I am curious like your are about those states and I know a few things about showcases there but not a lot. I will try to tell you what I know and don't know. As my son is an ('07) also this is important to me.

State by State:

Virginia. Best in Virginia. Dates: SessionI July 15-19, 2006. SessionII July 22-26, 2006. website: www.vabaseballcamps.com phone: 434-982-5775 It touts itself to be both an instructional camp and a showcase. Lots of VA and NC schools in attendance and some New England Schools also.
Impact Baseball at Old Dominion University: Dates: June 19-20, 2006. website: www.impactbaseball.com phone: [could not find one] email: AndyPartin@aol.com. Never been to one of these but I understand they have been very well attended by Virginia, North Carolina & South Carolina colleges and universities in the past. Some controversy here with one of the mainstays quitting or resigning or something fairly recently. Someone else could speak much better to that subject than me.

West Virginia. Don't know of any showcases per se. West Virginia University has a camp in December and Marshall University has a camp but I don't know when. They are the only Division I schools in West Virginia.

Maryland. I know nothing about Maryland.

North Carolina. Elon University. Dates: usually the weekend after Thanksgiving. website: www.elon.edu phone: 336-278-6794. My son and I attended last year (2005). It is primarily a showcase with some instruction. There are pro scouts and college scouts from nearby colleges there and they take notes. We found it to be an excellent experience.
Impact Showcase at Wake Forrest University. Dates: June 8-9, 2006. [information and comments same as above]

South Carolina. Impact Showcase at U. of South Carolina. June 29-30, 2006. [information and comments same as above]

Good luck.
First, what level of college play is your son suited for? Sometimes that's hard to know so I'll say this.

If you want high D-1s go to Perfect Game - Mid Atlantic top prospect.

BIV is a lot of fun for the kids since they get to live together for a week. Hey it's baseball camp - Pizza, and cards at night. But when it's all said and done. Mostly small schools are there - some D-1s. Not as many as a PG.

Va. Weslyan also smaller schools but good proportion of D-1s locally, ODU, VCU, others from Va. not likely to see NC State, UNC etc.

Southern Maryland - mostly smaller schools some D-1s the camp director is close with certain schools and they attend annually. It's good in that the instructors are the recruiters so you get a better look skill wise than at a PG. That's true for BIV to an even larger extent.

The Impact ones are up and coming. They work hard, promote their kids GREAT (see their website) and the cost is very competitive with the others. But I agree they don't, right now, touch too much (kids) above NC though they are starting to get a toe hold in Va -- they do get Va Schools attendance to scout. The owners recognize what they need to do. They "promote their kids" and especially "recognize them publicly."

I'll tell you a school that recruits the northeat HEAVY and that's Richmond. Great baseball school -pricy but they tap the NE by far more than any other Mid-atlantic school.

Best bet get a good idea of your son skill and academic interest level. When you can better gauge that the folks here can help you more.
