There's a lot of talk about what the changes are for this coming year with the Fall Showcase League.

There will be a Softball Showcase League, all players currently enrolled in high school during the fall of 2010 are eligible to tryout. There are two tryout dates one on 8/15 and one on 8/22. Schools on board to host include: St. Joseph's of Maine, SNHU, UMass Lowell, UMass Boston, St. Anselm, and two more schools will be selected based on who can fit the open dates. Registration is going on now @ www.showcaseleague.com spread the word.

Maine and Massachusetts: There will be a second division playing at seperate locations that will include teams from Maine and Mass. Maine is set to have a tryout at the Old Orchard Beach Ballpark on 8/22. Masschusetts players should contact myself at smanfredo@showcaseleague.com or coach Mike Croatti at mcroatti@showcaseleague.com to find out which tryouts are the best to attend.

Devo Divison: New for 2010 will be a Freshmen and Sophomore divison directed towards but not limited too New Hampshire players. There will be between 2 and 4 teams selected from players who attend Showcase League tryouts but might need another year to develop before facing the elite Showcase League players. Registration and tryouts are in conjunction with normal Showcase League tryouts so register at www.showcaseleague.com games will be on local NH fields on Saturdays starting 9/4. This will allow for players to also participate in the Granite State Baseball Association Fall Wood Bat League.

NH Fall Showcase League- 9 Week Season, We've added a second D1 location and our first trip to CT! Additionally we will be playing at UMass Lowell this year, home of the Lowell Spinners. NH Fall Classic will take place at St. Anselm again this year. You can attend one or all four tryouts. We have added some new, exciting, and qualified coaches to complement the returning staff. Again to register www.showcaseleague.com

I was at the Showcase League tryout in SNHU on Saturday, WOW what a great turn out. Not just in the number of kids in attendance ( which was well over 100) but the level of talent. I would hate to have to narrow that group down to just 60 kids. I don't know what they're putting in the water these days, but the size of these guys was impressive. Baseball is alive and well in the state of New Hampshire!
Coach Curt it was ridiculously hard we sat down and went over each player that tried out (almost 250 individuals) one at a time. All sitting around a table in a rented room with 5 days worth of ratings and notes. We had the room reserved for three hours, we needed probably three extra I have no idea what time we finished up.

Some real good players that won't make the program this season based on numbers only.

Bobby yes I'll get the roster up on the website today. At least the New Hampshire division.
They are up there took a little longer since I wasn't at both sites to get the stats from Mike and upload them. Would have been instant if there was wifi available!

Mass Maroon 5
Maine Black 4

Ben Wessel (Scarborough, ME) Had 3 hits but Grant Davis (Hopkinton, MA) pitched 3 shut out innings to close the game and give Maroon the chance to pick up one in the 7th and one in the 8th to squeek out the win. Alex Cucchi and Matt Russle had two hits a piece for Maroon.

Mass Gold 8
Maine Blue 1

Mass gold could really be called Vermont Gold as two of the three pitchers were from the Green Mountain State in the win. (Rugg, Tandy)

Torrey Charnock (Topsham, Me) had two hits for Blue and Nick Kelvin (Conway, NH) threw 4 + innings of relief. Gold scored 4 runs in the first and 4 additional runs before a single out was recorded in the second before Kelvin came in and stifled the offense.

Sharrow, Dubois, and Swim all had three hits a piece for Gold.
Great weather for another multi-site Showcase League weekend.

Maine Black 7 Mass Gold 1
Jeff Gelinas, Ben Wessel, and Ryan Mancini stifled the Gold Offense. Mancini also added two hits. Gold only managed 3 hits against the strong Maine pitching. James Faso pitched well for gold in the loss with 2 innings, no hits, 2 ks.

Ryan Mancini was named offensive player of the week. Matt Russel was named pitcher of the week entering the game with bases loaded and nobody out in the 5th with 5 runs already in for Blue. First game is 1P due to SAT's this Saturday. Usually those let out somewhere between Noon and 1230, so who knows the exact start time. I also understand it's 2 7 inning games rather than the normal 9 innings games due to daylight concerns.

Although I'm there every week - cannot answer the second question because not all college coaches come with bells on indicating they are their watching your child... A few do call after the fact though.
It was a nice turnout. But I was talking about the games not the weather! 6-4 and 2-1.

Maher vs. Wessel was a major dual with Wags, Bonnell, and Mellin coming in out of the NH Bullpen to get the save.

Joe Breen's opposite field homer was probably **** close to 400ft to the fight center gap.

An attempted steal of home in a 1-0 game?

Jimmy Faso coming in with the bases loaded getting a strikeout that was called a ball when the batter clearly swung, then getting a runner picked off third who was clearly out called safe and despite all that battling to get a strike out to end the inning?

NH Game One having pinch hitters rolling off the bench in the bottom of the seventh that are top hitters for top Class L teams? Feeney, Beal, and McQuade as pinch hitters?

That was some good baseball.
The kids did great on all 4 teams. They put together 28 innings total equalling 4 7 inning games in less than 8 hours. If you account for infield prep and infield practice it could be said that the "four games" were about 1 1/2 hours each. They all really hustled, played well and did a nice job for the GSBA beating the darkness.
NICE JOB BY ALL
