Showcasing day before tryouts?

What was your role on the team last year?  How comfortable are you with the coach? Is there a downside to simply asking him?  Or, are you and your teammates doing the showcase on the sly?  I guess I'd be surprised if the coach wasn't aware of the showcase and the possibility of kids  wanting to participate.....

Exactly right smoke. Ask the coach. 

ask your HS coach to go along to the showcase.  He gets to see you and your teammates in comparison to some of the better players in the area.  Does he know your intent of playing in college? Just having the conversation with the HS coach has got to earn you some interest points.

I would hope if you are going to a showcase its because you are of the ability to do so in which case making a cut should not be a concern.  I would definitely go but agree with others.  Tell him!  I loved it when my guys went to showcases.  Even if it was in season while I was less enthusiastic about it I love seeing players giving themselves a chance to get to the next level.  The idea of inviting him was an outstanding one.  Including him in your process shows him you value his involvement in your baseball life.  Whether he actually goes or not it is a win for you.

Ask the coach.You'll be demonstrating maturity and respect.

thanks for all the response, I was going to just ask him what he thought about it. Making the team won't be an issue my coach has been speaking with me about my potential role as a starter for a while now, but I will ask him to get his input! thanks again

Be careful about the taking the coach along with you thing.  That can run afoul of some state's rules.  Also, too many guys from one team attending an event can be a violation as well.
