Heeres a couple of inside information about a couple of prospect from around HR.

Ty Morrison had an excellent showing at the wood bat showcase hes went over the past two weeks and got offers or directly tlked to each coach from BC UNC ECU CC and FSU

Gary ward has now commited to Miami(FL)

Hunter Parrish and Phil McCarthy of Great Bridge have each commited to ODU

Von Kaufman and John Rasberry of Greenbrier have each comitted to play at Deleware Tech junior college. Von is graduating form GCA early to play at DT this summer

Im sorry to bring this up and i know its an a bad subject but since i am new i want my voice heard. As far as the private school and public schools debate goes i think that the private school is not notified enough when u have parenst being the editors of the Virginia Pilot such as Brian Black is in charge of High School sports editing and his son plays on the Hickory Varsity team. Gca might have a weak confrence schedule but travels around the east coast to play top notch teams
They beat the maryland private school champ W.v public school div. 3 sate champ. And lost by 1-0 in eight against the top divison S.C. public school team.
Also public schools around the area will not play them because they use the lame excuse that they won because there are 5th year seniors amd they are grown MEN! ha. lame

First, congrats to Gary Ward and his offer to attend Miami (FL). Gary is a great kid, great student, and a great baseball guy. Miami has found a diamond in this south paw.

I don't agree with your comments concerning The Va Pilot and Bryan Black. It wis true his son played at Hickory the passed 2 seasons. However, to say that the public schools get more attention than the private schools because of that is unfair. I remember reading two lengthy articles about the Cape Henry-GCA match-ups this season. Were there articles about Hickory and other top level public schools? Yes, when they matched up against each other (ie: Hickory-GB, PA-FC, Ocean Lakes-Kemspville).
Not every school is going to get a huge write up in the paper each day. With well over 50 schools (public and private) in the Tidewater area its tough to give everyone a 1/4 page report daily. No one complains when Booker T. and Kings Fork don't get a big write up about their game. All-in-all, the Va Pilot does a good job reporting on the hard working teams and players in our area.
The Division 2 final was a lot easier for GCA then the TCIS final against CHC. The finals at GCA for the TCIS championship were very intense (I can vouch because I was there.)

An earlier comment was made about some of the public schools not scheduling GCA for this reason and that. Here is the real reason. Public schools are restricted to the number of games they can play by the VHSL. Once you hit your game limit whatever game you play after that point is considered a loss by the VHSL, even if its a district game counting towards the standings. With most district memberships at 8 or 9 (and playing each team twice) that only leaves 2-4 games that a school can schedule to fill out the calender. Most schools will try to finish the schedule by playing a spring break tournament in Richmond, FL, SC etc. where they will play teams outside of the local area. This tends to leave public schools no room to schedule teams like GCA.

Private schools on the other hand I believe can schedule many more games than the public schools without restriction. GCA has played teams like Booker T Washington (not a powerhouse in the Eastern district), Grafton (a AA school) and other lower ranking teams. Is this wrong? No. Everyone deserves to play the best to better themselves.

Ok I have no dog in this fight. But here is my view.
1- If you are going to attack the integrity of someones profession, I would recommend writing to the paper directly, and feel free sign it.
2- Public schools in most areas get more press in my opinion due to there are more of them and they play local teams and the casual reader has more knowlege about a local Public school.
3- If Private Schools do have 5th year Seniors (which if true is a whole different discussion) I don't blame the school for not playing them. Those guys should be playing in college.
4- As noted by others Public Schools are limited to a 20 game regular season schedule. In my opinion it should change to a 24 to 28 game schedule but thats for another thread.
With everyone's input, the "Top 2008" thread will be updated. The list developed on that thread will be updated with college commitments (or interest) for all players listed. Look for it in early fall (i.e., Sept/Oct). In the meantime, I'll monitor info posted here and include it with the names on that list (under thread "Top 2008"). Thanks in advance for your help in keeping up with the best in Va for 2008.
