What does being safe have to do with interfering? Was play killed or did the runner interfere?

Answers: No and yes.

Remember, in this case the interference is with the ability to get the runner at first not the safe runner at second.

FED 2-32-2 A slide is is illegal if:

(a) the runner uses a rolling, cross body or pop-up slide into the fielder...

The action as described in the OP would violate this rule.

The rule regarding the popup slide is self explanatory. Intent has nothing to do with it.

As the coach of the defense do you really want me to have to consider the offensive coach's argument..."he didn't mean to"? Which of us is the mind reader?

Unintentional interference has the same effect on the defense. Why should the offense be rewarded for putting the defense at a disadvantage?

Again..the rule was written by coaches and AD's not umpires.

When I don't agree with the speed limit set for a certain road, I don't blame the police. I have a choice, follow the rules or break them and pay the consequences.

Coaches can set the example and teach their players to play by the rules or they can teach their players to cheat and hope then don't get caught and then they can go post on internet sites that they just don't understand the lack of ethic in today's youth.

First...fielders cannot interfere, they obstruct.

Second are you suggesting that a fielder, with some kind of advance knowledge that the runner is going to slide illegally, puposefully puts himself in a position to be illegally contacted by the sliding runner? Still interferemce. Under FED rules the runner may not slide illegally and make contact or alter the play. Period. No matter what kind of magic a fielder may use to conjur the play.

I have to admit, this is the king of third world plays. I'm sending it on to my state rep and Indianapolis. They can use a chuckle.
