After looking on this board, the small schools seam to be ignored alot. So I just seeing if anyone is interested. What small school progams are doing well, who has the best program and what kids are the top players.

Melissa has a great team this year. The Duzenak kid is a great player, had 2 HR last night.

I also like my mighty Foxes of Caddo Mills, young and talented.
Cooper is another yong and talented team in the same district.

Who else is out there?

I think it is really just a matter of numbers (less people to follow those teams, means less people even know about this website), not that the kids are intentionally being ignored on here, or anywhere else. Then you have the massive populace in some of these large 4A/5A districts and you're bound to get enough interest to have discussions... even then it is just a small fraction of these teams' following that are here on this board.

Glad you are here and posting some positive things about the smaller schools!

I'm very familiar with Melissa, since Duzenack and Wilson have played with me since 12U (Wilson will be missed this summer). I know Camden does some catching for the school team, but he really shines as a middle infielder.
Yeah your right. Just not enough people following the small schools on this board. Hopefully we can change that. This is a great resource for baseball parents and to gather information on what is happening. If we small school supporters want to get our talented players recognized we need to do more to promote them.

Lefthandersmom,
Leonard does have some young talent coming. The future is bright for them. Coach Lipsey is a good coach and when they get some more experience watch out for the Tigers.
Lefthandersmom: That 8th grader of yours is following in big brothers (Hayden Nixon @ Frisco Wakeland) foot steps. I'm glad those boys got their mothers athleticisim!

I agree, the future is bright for Leonard baseball, but the new district they have re-aligned w/ is going to be tough. Three local 3A schools (Farmersville, Pilot Point, Van Alstyne) have dropped down into 2A and are now in Leonard's district. The young talent is going to have to grow up fast!

That's the beauty of Baseball it does not matter if you ar 5A or 2A any team can play with anyone if they are coached correctly. I watch mostly 5A but know that there are several smaller classifications that can compete with many of the larger clssifications.
Update from last night. Caddo Mills beat Paris Chisum 11-5. Caddo's Cody Nitson led the Foxes going 4-4 at the plate. Will Rutherford had a great game as well. Paris kids played hard and never gave up as it was 11-2 going into the 7th.

Leonard lost to Cooper 11-5. Melissa beat Rivercrest.

Melissa leads district race at 9-0
Prarieland was off 5-3
Cooper 5-4
Caddo 4-5
Leonard
Paris Chisum
Rivercrest
Thank you and Your Welcome, Leftyhandersdad. Leonard will come around they do have a lot of talent coming.
West and Kennadale are both very good programs, and it looks as if they willo continue to be.
We played in the Trenton Tournament and faced this very young and talented Trenton Team. They will continue to get better with the experience they are getting. We threw our Sophomore at them and he was impressed with thier plate disciplin.
How about a small school among small schools! Dodd City has a high school enrollment of about 60 students and competes very well among the other larger Class A schools who have three times the number of students. They made it to the state semifinals last spring and were ranked #1 in the preseason poll this spring. They dropped out of the polls when they were late getting out of the state basketball playoffs (most of their baseball players also play basketball) and began their season with district games. They have only two losses this year, one to a very good Trenton team and the other to a state ranked 2A team from Oklahoma.
I'm sure there are a number...but one recently was Brandon Pierce (Gunter HS... 2A)... drafted in 26th round in '10, didn't sign pro contract, and currently playing for Nebraska.

I know you didn't mention private schools, and I realize that can be a different thing altogether, but as far as class size goes, most would be considered no larger than 2A.

STRIKE-M-OUT, For the record, I'm not a scout or a recruiting coordinator, just a dad of two sons that play baseball, so what I'm about to express is my own opinions from my own personal experiences. Four years ago I "thought" moving my son to a competitive 4A program would help his chances of receiving a scholarship from a D1 University, but I was wrong! This is what I've learned, if a kid can throw/pitch (87-91 mph +), run (6.5 sec. 60 or better), and hit the cover off the ball consistantly (hit for power - HR's), scouts/D1 recruiting coordinators will find him at a 1A or 2A school as easy as they find him at a 4A or 5A. The word of mouth travels very far. Heck, how do you think they find players under a rock in the Dominican Republic? Scouts are not interested in the level of high school play, they are only interested in individual ability because they know what it takes to play at the D1 level. Have them concentrate on strength and conditioning, flexibility, nutrition and become as athletic as they can be!

I would save your money on select ball as well and have your son attend D1 college camps instead. If your son can do the things they're looking for, the coaches will definitly notice him at the fraction of the cost!
Caleb Walker from Caddo Mills is at Oral Roberts. He went JUCO at Eastern Oklahoma first.

The scouts will find you is one mistake a lot of people make. I have been through the recruiting process before. It is the parents job to "sell" their athlete.
One way to do this is to get in with a good summer club/organization that will go and play in the events that the scouts go to. We are playing with the Texas Dukes and have been to many events that have had scouts of all levels. We are fortunate to have excellent coaches that teach the high level skills needed to impress the scouts.
Yes, there are many ways to get your player seen, camps, select ball, open tryouts. You have to put the work in and be willing to pay for the events.
Great thread...

Farmersville is another smaller school that has been playing David vs. Goliath in the past week beating Lovejoy (1100+ students) 1-0 and Prosper (1200+) 1-0 and take over 1st place in 11-3a with 6-1 record.

Melissa, Trenton and Dodd City all looking really salty this year in the lower classifications. Caddo and Leonard are really young but will only get better in the next few years.

Couldn't agree with ya more Lefty...You have a couple of really good ones there my friend and hope things go well at Panola.

I'm glad mine left a 4a school to come back to graduate/play with all his friends he grew up with at his 3a school. Now trying to get interest again after a wasted 2 years and injury plagued 2011 Summer/Fall where he couldn't pitch/catch. Now healthy, and having a great Senior season...working to try and catch on somewhere for college.

Yes, they all are playing well right now and doing enough to get the W..Collin Rodgers is doing very well on the mound too...They have both been pretty dominant in District to this point...they have been a really good 1-2 punch to this point.

Coach C does have them playing good ball right now..just have to keep the "mo" rolling.
I can't personally relate to playing for a small school because my son plays for 5a school that gets into the playoffs every year. However, I do beleive that the size of the school does not matter. My son sign to play for a D1 school not because of anything he did at high school but by attending a PG Showcase and playing on a competitive travel team that played in tournaments that were attended by scouts and college recruiters. In fact one year he played with Dalton Brown whose name was mentioned in this thread. Believe me, the scouts are not coming to Ponder or any other highschool for that matter unless the guy has talent which is usually determined by what they the kid did during the summer such as attending Area Code, PG events and other tournaments, college camp and playing for a reputable travel team that has talented players. Not all reputable travel teams field every team in their organization with high level talent.

golden rule I completely agree with you. My son is playing those events now as a sophomore. He has already played infront of a number of scouts at PG events and we hope he is on smeones radar.
