Son had first baseball of the year this this weekend. Sure is nice to be back at it. Son didn't get a hit until the 4th game of the tournament but I was pleased with his at bats. He was concerned because he hadn't done well at the cages. Didn't see him swing at one bad pitch. The first day he hit a sharp grounder that the 3rd baseman made a great play on. Two hard line drives were also caught at 3rd base. One at his ankles and one he jumped up and snagged. The first baseman also snagged a liner while playing back at the grass and jumping up. Then he hit a comebacker right at the pitcher. If he hadn't of walked he wouln't have smelled the bases. He was hitting the ball hard and didn't get fooled by any pitches. The stats don't show it but I think he had a great start to the season. Smile

Unfortunately now we've got to wait 3 weeks for the season to start.

I always remind my son that baseball can be a cruel game....hit it square - great line drive and you get an out. Horrible swing, hit it off the end of the bat and it falls in for a hit. Go figure.

In truth we all know if you keep hitting the ball well good things will happen - kinda hard for a smart kid who is keeping his batting average in his head.

I take it your son is a catcher, have him concentrate on that - the hits will come. Have a great season.
in September son had 3 strike outs in one game. opposing team walked batter in front of him to load bases. He wiffed. Only strikeouts all season ending in November.

This season began with a trip to the ER, but 2 days later he was in the game. First for Middle School season. Three strike outs, due to timidity of finger injury. Two days later, 2 at bats, 2 line drives right up the middle. Great first tourney, and this past weekend was intentionally walked three times. Got a walk off rbi. happy boy.

The hits will come.
Thanks for sharing bkekcs,

My little guy had a game like that Saturday. He's obviously getting the right feedback from his coaches because all I heard after the game was "Man, I hit that ball hard today!!" He's 8 and the way things like this are handled by coaches and parents is all the kids knows. He can go home thinking he made three outs or he can go home knowing he hit the ball hard all three times and knocked in some of his buddies. Sounds like your boy and yourself have a great grip on this.

Last year my boy had a game where he just couldn't put the bat on the ball. He struck out three times in a coach pitch game. Just trying too hard or something I guess. Two days after the game we went to watch UT play Nebraska in Austin. The pitcher from Nebraska was untouchable and UT went down 6-0. Aidan sat there the entire game and watched as some of the best hitters in our neck of the woods went 0 for. It was like someone had just handed me all the ammo I needed to help him understand just how this game can work you over at times. See there son, that guy just went 0 for 4 and gave you a smile and a pat on the head with his autograph. That's baseball son. The part of it you can only learn with experience.

It stuck I guess. After a game last week a buddy of his on his team had struck out and was really down. young kid practically in tears in the dugout. Wife comes to me after the game and says that the boys mom said our son was so sweet. He had wlked over to him on the bench, sat down next to him and just said, "hey man, that's baseball".

It's amazes me what I learn from these kids.
