Frank, I'm with you. I guess preseason polls are put out to fill "dead" time between seasons. Just something to peak interest and spur discussion and sell publications. Take them with a grain of salt, most of these so-called experts are clueless and get their information from reading other "experts".

Along the same lines I get a kick out of the "Wallace Watch", "Clemens Watch", etc. Was watching a game between Baylor and Texas the other night and the announcers were going on and on about a player that was on the Wallace list. His average is .250. What if a kid is hitting .600 but not on the list? Too bad? Or maybe they'll put him ON the list now. Wouldn't it make sense to just "watch" ALL the players???? Another case of clueless.

I have a daughter currently attending Columbia University on the Volleyball team and one who graduated from there in 2006, so I watch Columbia athletics regularly. My 2008 son was scouted by the Columbia coaching staff, but didn't have a high enough GPA to get in, though his SAT scores were well within the school's acceptance ranges. I know that the baseball team has some very good hitters...Nick Cox is a super clutch hitter and so is Henry Patrick. The second game was a marathon with Dartmouth...I think the score ended up something like 15-14. Go Lions!! This is only the 3rd Ivy League Championship in any sport in the school's history, or something monumental like that.

My son will be attending DIII Birmingham Southern this fall and hopes to play ball there. He will be in the 3/2 engineering program which means he will go to school at BSC for 3 years and then transfer to Columbia to finish his engineering degree. Once he gets to Columbia, he'll have 2 years of eligibility left as we are hoping he gets redshirted at BSC. It'll kind of be like a JUCO situation we hope.

It just dawned on me that if AJ had followed through with the Columbia recruitment, he might well have been competing against Josh ... how 'random' is that (as my 'kids' always say)?

La. Lightning-there are no redshirts in D III, except medical redshirts. They wiped out redshirting in D III about 4-5 years ago.
