I have been having an on-going discussion with a friend and we seem to be in disagreement--thoughts from those "in the know" please.

Is it better to be on a strong, private high school team (that costs quite a bit of money) and has commute time or a better than average high school with good coaching that is local if you play on a strong summer team that will be playing national level competition?

I have my thoughts, but people on this site are waaaay smarter than this old mom. Confused

BBfam,

I started a similar thread in Sept under the Recruiting Questions forum and received many informative posts and private messages. You can find a link to it by clicking on my name in the left column... I ended up choosing the public rather than private school route. My son plays a lot of travel ball on a team with very good coaching and the public high schools near us (there are 2) have excellent academics; one has okay BB and one has a pretty good BB program.
We have the same situation, a strong local high school program with good coaching and a stronger private school program. We considered the private school for our son (8th grade this year) but decided against it. It was a lot of money, but the commute was the biggest issue. He plays on a very good travel team that will hopefully stay together for summer ball through high school. Between the two teams, we hope he will get some exposure to college coaches over the years. Good luck with whichever school you choose.
