Son is about to start baseball season in the pacific northwest. What are recommended socks for soggy fields and/or cold conditions. Are over the calf better than crew socks? Cotton socks are no bueno. We are going balaclava shopping tonight.

I am a HS football coach so deal with wet/cold conditions every year. One of my go to's during cold wet weather is using grocery store plastic bags over a pair of warm socks, followed by another pair of socks. Works really well!
There are also hiking blogs that have info on hiking in cold/wet conditions that might be helpful.
Under Armour ColdGear (hiking or hunting stores). DryMax cold weather football socks (on-line). Any thin wool hiking socks made for cold and wet weather. Most guys don't have enough extra room in their cleats for a thick wool sock.
I'd give merino wool (not itchy at all) a try. https://www.smartwool.com/
Don't forget to treat the shoes with a water proofing spray... I used to have to do it, now my son asks where I keep the waterproofing stuff at.
Doesn't hurt to spray the back packs, jackets, etc...
what about tops and bottoms? same companies?

I like Nike HyperWarm and UA ColdGear.
