I know this is the hsbbwb site but I thought you should know that the knowledge gained here has helped my daughter as well.
Highschool Freshmen, starting catcher number three hitter on the team.Leads the team in triples.
Just chosen first team all conference and we just won our district last weekend.
Sectional game tonight.
Thanks for all of the knowledge that you share folks.

Thanks YBMom and Tas,when my daughter is catching it is a reflection of her brother behind the plate.
When compared to other catchers that she has played against all summer and now in highschool there is no comparison.
She uses all the same setups as her older brother uses for baseball.Others just don't know what they are missing. One other thing she has learned through lots of BP is how to hit the inside of the ball. Most of the triples were to right field.
Last nights game rained out, will play tonight.

Sounds a lot like my daughter (HS soph). She has been around baseball since she could walk (older brother that loves to play), played baseball and made All-Stars (pitched, too), and finally moved over to softball when there was a team for her to play on.

On the field, she pitches, knows the game, backs up the bases, etc. She can play any other position, but she knows she is a good outfielder and that is what the team needs when she isn't pitching. Her best assets are she is coachable, a team player and she works to make her teammates better.

I had several opposing coaches tell me she should have made All-District as a pitcher last year (Freshman), but they gave it to her as an outfielder.

I have coached & umpired LL and ASA for about 10 years now and I can almost always spot the players that have older brothers playing just by the attitude, effort and knowledge they bring to the game.
There is no doubt, having older brothers to play with makes a difference in how a young lady plays.
Right or wrong I can hear my sons telling her not to play like a girl, she doesn't.
About your daughter not being selected as an all district pitcher as Freshmen. I think it's hard for some to conceed that a freshmen can even get close to being as good as an older player. That's unfortunate or would that be the poli@!#s involved? Surely not.

My daughter actually did outpitch the girl that got All-District pitcher. The coaches that spoke with me afterwards told me this (the coaches contacted me). However, the vote "was arranged" before the district meeting was held in order "share the awards" throughout all of the teams in the district (affected some coaches bonuses). One of the "out-voted" coaches (not from our school), walked out after the vote.

But the good new is that this inspired my daughter to work harder. It has also inspired the new pitcher in the rotation. Their personal goal is to get the pitching award for one of them (either one) this year.

Like all dad's, I want to see my daughter get better, but I could live with it if she only pitched as well as last year. clap
Not a problem there as far as I am concerned. My son got some offers because of the personnel involved but we decided to go to plan B. The competition was first rate as well as the coaches and travel accomodations. I do know of what problems that you speak of but did not experience it first hand. Had a great experience this summer, no regrets.
I, also, wanted to thank HSBBWeb for assisting in my daughters softball career. She was offered 3 schollys, but decided to hang them up and go to school locally. I hated to see it end, but it was her choice. It is possible to beat out upperclassmen for awards. My daughter won All-District and All-Region awards every year from the time she was in the 8th grade until she graduated. She never got All-State - the team never made it to the State. Young players...work harder than the others - it will pay off.
