My 2013 is coming off shoulder surgery, non throwing from a football injury. he will play next year for a D3 program. He is cleared to play and throw and also continues with PT.

He will be home in a few weeks for the summer, I'd like him to long toss, (looking closely ast Alan Jaegard program) but his friends are not as committed and will not be reliable.

Does any one have a more interesting idea than taking a bucket of balls to the football field? Throw the balls down the sideline, pick them all up and do it again?

Thanks

He can throw the length of a gym by putting an X of tape on a far wall about 15-20 feet up (as long as it's cinderblock).  The trajectory is similar, he can start close and work his way back, and the ball comes back to him.  Use a rubber ball.  Find a machine ball that is the same weight as a normal ball.  Works fine.  It's how I had my guys long-toss when the weather was too cold/bad.

Not having a teammate to throw with has been a fact of life for my son as well.

He can throw into the backstop so you know the distance and it is easier to collect the balls.

My son did a lot of his winter throwing at a batting cage,  He would hit, then throw. He would also throw to his dad outside. My husband would throw it back until the distance got too great, then he would just drop the balls in a bucket.

I have a picture this winter of my son throwing into his pop up net on the driveway. You can see where he had shoveled the snow to clear room to throw. I love that picture! Where there's a will, there's a way.

Good luck to him.

When I did long toss with my son there was apoint were I couldn't throw the ball back as well, I would roll it like a bowling ball, if I didn't my arm would have fallin off.

I would also like to personally endorse the TAP sand-filled balls that BOF mentions above.  We have a set of underweight, 5 OZ, and overweight balls so that my son never has to sacrifice a throw day to bad weather.  He used the sand filled balls against the cinderblock wall in our basement this offseason with good results.
