Two things this weekend have prompted me to post this.

I think it will show that it can happen no matter how dark it seems in the beginning

Example 01--- Marietta College is sitting pretty in the Division III world Series--they are 3-0 and have to be beaten twice in the cahmpionship round--- there is young man we know well who went there and the first year was not hat he was used to --sitting on the bench--he was not used to that--- today he is a starter on a team in the finals--the young man is happy

Example 02--- got an email from a Dad yesterday telling me his son had walked on at a Division I school a few years back and made the team-- time on the mound has been limited but this year they won their conference title and are headed to the Division I NCAA Regionals-- the young man is happy.

Can also add another "good feel" story regarding a young man who nearly gave it up in the fall of his freshman year at a strong Division II program--I talked to him--his coach talked to him--- he stuck it out-- as a senior this year he makes All Conference and the All Regional Tourney Team--in two weeks is the draft and who knows what can happen then

Cherry on the Cake--all three will have college degrees

For you guys out there getting ready to embark on your college baseball careers--don't ever think about giving up on your dream--these are just exmaples i know of with players I know --I am sure there are many more out there

My 07 was approached by his English teacher the other day. The teacher is fantastic..has taken a real interest in my son's filmmaking ability, among other things. The teacher knows he's a baseball player. But, still, asked him where he wanted to go to college. Son listed his baseball schools. Teacher said why do you want to go THERE when you should go to UCLA and major in film?? Son was caught off guard...never considered anything but baseball. Comes home kind of upset. Unsure. My husband and I said filmmaking is a lifelong pursuit that can only get better with time and experience. What better experience could you have than to excel at a sport and take it to the next level..a level you've worked your butt off to reach!! Imagine NOT having a choice at this point..as so many kids have.
TR - these are all good thoughts.

My son has a former teammate on Marietta who got five at bats for them last year and is now starring for them as a sophmore. That kid was a huge star in high school, BTW. Sometimes the big picture requires you to wait your turn. It is what you do in the mean time that determines the future.

In my son's case, he started out as a red shirt this season and eventually wound up on the team. Rather than feel sorry for himself, he worked hard on his own game while he waited his turn. The last third of the season he was the team's hottest hitter and they just missed winning their conference tournament (imho) by losing two 10 inning heartbreakers. He dearly wanted to continue playing but eagerly looks forward to this summer and next year.
Newcomer:

I think you might be giving up too soon. There are many schools that have a good baseball team and an excellent broadcasting/filmaking department. One of them has already been mentioned in this thread.

Marietta College has one of the best DIII baseball pograms in the country and has an excellent Communication program that includes filmaking. Look around on some college search engines and you will find more schools with both. Your son can have his cake and eat it too. It is all about options but you have to look for them.

Good luck.
