shake my head and wonder about it.

My wife and I go to our youngest son's collegiate summer league game yesterday. Beautiful day for a game. Last one before a small break for the July 4th weekend.

Before the game - he comes up to my wife and I and says:

"Mom - I am going to hit a home run for you today - for your birthday present. (Her birthday is July 4th)".

I laughed at him - and told him he best just hit the ball hard given that he is not a home run hitter. In fact - he has never hit a wood bat homerun in his life.

His first at bat of the game - 3-2 count - he hits a 350 foot linedrive off the base of the scoreboard - 3 run dinger.

Steps on home plate - comes over to the fence and says - "Happy birthday Mom - I told you I was going to do it."
Then - he looks at me - and just winks - and runs back to the dugout.

I just shook my head and smiled. I wont forget that one anytime soon.
You spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time. ~Jim Bouton, Ball Four, 1970
