Very good PG tournament. One of the best, in my opinion. Depending on your son's team and their opponents in the bracket, you may see 30-40 college coaches and MLB scouts there. While there is a good amount of MLB scouts there, this tournament has in excess of 200 (maybe as many as 300) college coaches.

My son was there last year and is scheduled for this year (depending on how is wrist/hand injury is diagnosed - we'll know more today).

It's a must do event. Make sure that he reaches out to any and all schools/coaches that he has interest in.

Have fun...

I second what NYdad says.  It is a no brainer, and your son should be very excited about it.  For those who work hard, are prepared mentally and physically and have the necessary tools to play college baseball (at any level), it can literally be a life changing event. Prepare, go, enjoy, let recruiting coordinators at every school that (a) he is interested in and (b) you objectively think he could play at know that he will be there and with which team he will play for.  Be precise with team name/age/color? whatever...my son would simply send a link to his team's schedule and/or roster for avoidance of doubt.  Also, if he wants to be looked at as a pitcher, make sure to have him or his travel coach let coaches know the rotation.  If he is not at the stage yet where he is in dialogue with college coaches or on anyone's radar, he should still email certain schools.  But, otherwise, show up, play hard, let his talent show.  There will be eyes on him for sure.  Last year, my son (a PO) had 25+ D1 coaches watching his start.  A handful were there to see him, as he had been in some dialogue and was one way or another on their radar.  But, he was on a talented team (now all D1 commits) and the opponent was very good, too.  Thus, there were many coaches there watching other players.  A week later, he had offers and was committed in December. Get after it and GOOD LUCK!

Abso-friggin-lutely!  See below.  I was not there, but this was the scene when my son took the mound in Ft. Myers a year ago.  This was nothing special or unsusual, mind you.  Now, a lot does depend on the level of talent on his team and the opponent.

Depends on your definition of full force.

Attendence by college coaches is limited by the fact that many colleges are in the middle of fall practice. Even so, a lot of programs figure out how to get at least one coach there for at least part of the event.

My son went twice.  Both heavily scouted and first year was the first time pitching coach of my son's future school saw him.

I wasn't there but year 2 son and kid who ultimately committed to Arizona State pitched against each other.  Great game and I was told between 45-70 coaches/scouts were watching that game at any one time.  Uncommitted lefties hitting 88 (not my son btw) usually do the trick in drawing a crowd.

My guess only the 17U WWBA in Atlanta is more heavily recruited.  Assuming you take Jupiter out as most kids at that are committed so I hear.

Thank you all for your insight. Too.tall , to be completely honest I'm not sure who selected my son or what the selection process is like. What I do know he was contacted by one of his coaches in his organization. But I'm sure it has a lot to do with all of what you mentioned above. Get in with a good baseball organization, one who is well respected in the travel baseball world.

Just in case you're asking about individual invitations, this tournament is for teams so PG does not invite individuals. Travel teams request the invitation, not players. There are currently 208 teams listed for this year's event.

1) Go. Run, don't walk.

2) If he's a position player, work hard leading up to it. HARD! Every aspect: hitting, fielding, throwing. Take lessons if you have to (it's an investment, not an expenditure). Create and execute on a speed program, especially the start. Keep hitting weights. Mimic the pro style workout every day, running through it 2x/day.

3) If he's a pitcher, practice looking good in shorts until he gets his turn on the bump. ONLY KIDDING!! Focus during every training session.

4) “You can't dream up confidence. Confidence is born of demonstrated ability.” If he works his ass off, he'll go into this highly confident.
