If your fastball velocity is in the 80-85 mph range and you're a sophomore in high school, I'd say that you are doing fine. More importantly however, how is your ability to locate your pitches? Without the ability to locate a fastball where you want/need it, you're velocity becomes more irrelevant. Reference: Rick Ankiel (St. Louis Cardinals)

Hi, guys

Im a sophmore in HS, and wanted to know what the typical velocity is for my age. I just turned 16 a few weeks ago.

Right now I should be in the 80-85 range. Is that good for me.

BTW im 5'8 140LBS( Pretty small)

Mains, I don't mean to give you a hard time, but I can't imagine a kid who can throw 80-85 mph getting cut from the JV team unless the ball is all over the place. There are a lot of kids on varsity teams across the country throwing 85 mph, so your velocity is fine.
