I see where Collegiate Baseball has tag South Carolina with the #1 recruiting class for 2005. They have 23 new players coming in this year. How in the world do you recruit 23 player for one year? That's 2 1/2 teams. What about the other 30 or so that are still there? Sounds like there will be a lot of unhappy campers there when they do not get any playing time.

While I hate to bring up specific programs in these instances...since it's already here..

Take a look at the low number of seniors they lost last year, and the number of players drafted and signed and the situation looks even tighter.

observer44 : Are Havens and Smoak on the top of their recruiting list?

Since they collectively turned down over 2.5 million to play at South Carolina instead of the pro's you would think they won't have to worry about playing time as freshmen.

The other 21 freshmen recruits may have to be happy on the end of the bench and occasionally rubbing shoulders with two future 'big leaguers'!

20 or more signees is not uncommon at S. Carolina. Over half will never see the Chickens' roster. Call it what you will (stockpiling, overrecruiting, etc). But that's the way things work in Columbia, and probably a lot of other places.
