Oh I think that a number of folks had a problem with it and a number of complaints were lodged. It is just that the administrators did nothing about it. Winning has a way of creating protection.

How would you like it if you were being operated on, the going got tough and your surgeon starting verbally abusing his nurses and throwing his surgical instruments in the operating room? Do you think that would achieve a better result? Or is it just ok to verbally abuse young people?

You are not going to get a better performance from a human being by abusive treatment. That is not to say that one should not constructively explain the error and work on its correction through practice. Verbal abuse is not going to show someone how to field a ground ball correctly.

Coaches also need to understand the ability level with which they are dealing. Most of these players are going to go pro in something other than baseball. And, as someone else pointed out, we all have seen even the professional baseball players make mistakes. Just yesterday, one did not tag up at third on what should have been a sac fly

Why is it that coaches are often given a free pass on the verbal abuse?

Reason 1: Fear.

Coach controls the player and his playing time. He has enough players at his disposal that with the exception of 2 maybe 3 per year he wins the same number of games with anyone on his roster down to player 15 or 16. See Reason 1.

Coach is a legend with very loyal assistants. Player is 15 so if he complains it's him against the entire coching staff...unless the other players speak up. They won't. See Resaon 1.

Parents do something about it ....well you won't have to look far on this board to know what the feeling is about "meddlesome" parents is. See Reason 1.
