Huge mistake if GB pitches Flaherty on Monday. I know their other pitchers are good but do they want to make the same mistake as WB by underestimating a lineup that has proven themselves to be solid one through nine? Not sure who else GB plays but unless they play WB that week as well they should pitch Flaherty against NR. IMO I would still pitch Flaherty against NR even if they play WB that week seeing as NR is clearly the better team and the one that GB will have to fend off for 1st in the district.

Great Bridge does not have a game Monday in which to pitch Flaherty. The Great Bridge / Hickory game is Saturday, April 2. So it looks like Great Bridge could pitch Flaherty on Tuesday against NR AND on Saturday versus Hickory if they so chose. (Don't forget the saying "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.") Besides, by the time Saturday is reached, Hickory may not have any pitching left, given their rough schedule next week, and Great Bridge seems to have a number of pitchers it can put on the mound.
GF at KF
The umpire had a big strike zone, but he had it for both sides. Matt Outman started for GF giving up 4 hits in the first inning (3 IF hits), and surrendered the only run. After that he strikes out 11 in 6 innings of work. (5 total hits, 2 HBP) Kyle walker pitches the last 2 innings for the win (1k). Travis Cherry pitched well for 8 innings (101 pitches, in the 50s?) gathering 7k's, 3BB, HPB and 5 hits. Jason Inghram had the game winning hit.

Wow...Hope that young man lasts the whole season. He threw 100+ pitches in the opening game against Nansemond River. Came back three days later and pitched against Deep Creek to get the win. And goes 8 innings a week later.
More on the Western Branch / Lakeland game. Lance led off for Lakeland in the bottom of the first with a double but was thrown out with a 9-4-5 relay when he tried to stretch his hit to a triple. WB scored 3 in the top of the 3rd on a solo homerun by Garrett Brooks and a 2-run homer by Shane Johnsonbaugh. Lakeland answered with 2 unearned runs in their half of the third when Lance reached on an error with 2-outs. Following a walk, David Waterfield and Tyler had back to back singles to drive in the 2 runs, making the score 3-2 at the end of the 3rd. The score remained 3-2 until the 5th. In the top of the 5th, Western Branch batted around, scoring 8 runs to put the game out of reach. David Waterfield, for Lakeland, scored another unearned run in the bottom of the 5th. WB scored 5 more runs in the top of the 6th, which included a 3-run homer by Brooks.

Those with multiple hits for WB were Brooks, Kenny Cassidy, Alex Hunt and Michael Donovan and for Lakeland, Tyler, their clean-up hitter, all of whom had 2 hits.

Notable was the Lakeland outfield play. They ran down 13 fly balls to record 13 of the 18 outs, with no errors.

Nick Thompson (5H, 3R, 0ER, 2BB and 6Ks), who pitched 5 innings, picked up the win. With that win, Thompson set the record (26) for the most wins by a pitcher at Western Branch, breaking the record of Jimmy Anderson (25 wins).

Tommy Bradshaw closed the game for WB with a scoreless 6th inning.

How can you say that after 4 games?

wish i could have replied but someone gave me a temporary ban....

i think when you go head to head with someone and beat them you should be considered the better team. WB will have its chance to get the upper hand when they play again and I am sure they will play a much better game and really make NR earn that title. Wouldn't be surprised if they beat the brakes off of NR. But they are so close right now I give the advantage to the team that won last.
