I don't think there was some master plan to why Cox pitched on Tues. I think it was his turn to throw and probably did not want him to go 3 more days without pitching an inning. He did throw quite a few pitches on Tues, but if they need him tommorow he can go i'm sure. I feel like there are other arms ie: Ellis and Carter that are very capable of handling their business. In this district you don't save pitching you throw your ace every chance you get IMO.
Last day before Spring break and things may start to get sorted out.

While lots of folks have an eye the GF vs WB for the top spot the two most important games proabably are be GB vs DC and H vs NR. A GB win puts them in solid position while DC looks to stay in position. The winner of H vs NR looks set themselves up for a run.

IR should handle Lakeland so they will have righted themselves heading into the break and remain a strong contender.

Very possible that 4 teams: IR, H, DC, NR all have 3 losses heading into the break chasing GF, WB, and GB with 0 or 1 loss. If that happens almost everyday gameday from here until May will have games that matter. Luv that!
Western Branch 7 Grassfield 5

Shane Johnsonbaugh led the offense, setting the tone with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and a double in the bottom of the third driving in two more runs. At the end of three, score was 5-1. Garrett Brooks, Nick Thompson, and Kenny Cassidy had multiple hits for WB.

Grassfield staged a comeback in the top of the 6th scoring two unearned runs including base hits by Cody Cox and #15 to make the score 7-3. GF added two more runs in the 7th inning to complete the scoring. Jordan Miller and Cody Cox had multiple hits for GF.

Defensively, Alex Hunt (WB) made a nice diving catch in the top of the first to deny GF a run, Tyler Manugo (WB) made a great stop in the top of the 7th for an out, and the centerfielder for GF threw a runner out at the plate.

Nick Thompson threw a complete game for WB.

BOHN!!!

Bohn, you wasted your postage. There is a lot of baseball to play. Only 1/3 of the district games have been played. Anything can happen and the "lower tier" teams, as can-o-corn classified them, can be spoilers.
This was the lost week for Hickory. They could still recover but they have to go 9-3 the rest of the way in the distrect to get to 11-7 which is the minimum it will take to get in the District tournament. That's probably too tall for this years team and even 9-3 might not be good enough if they make it happen.

Unless one of the contenders loses a game to LL, KF, OS which seems very unlikely it is probably DC and Hickory's fate to be spoilers this year and Hickory is far and away the more dangerous of those two.

The district is going to preseason chalk as far as the 4 teams in the tournament although the order is going to be scrambled.

GF and WB will battle until the end for the title. GB could sneak in there but the other two look better so they will be 3rd or possibly 4th if IR finishes strong. I think GB and IR are a cut above NR so I look for NR to hang around but missing out. If they are to get in it will probably be at GB expense which means beating them head to head which is the first game back from spring break.
TEAM--------R---H---E
Kings Fork -- 13 - 9 - 1
Oscar Smith - 1 - 2 - 12

Bowman, RHP, for King's Fork relieved their starter with one out in the 1st and pitched very well, staying consistently around the zone (1 BB) finishing w/ 6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, the BB, & 6 Ks.

Cherry, the SS, and Bowman were each 2-for-3 with a 2B at the plate, with Cherry gathering 3 RBI. King's Fork's leadoff hitter Johnson, the CF, had 2 hits, 3 R, and 3 SB.

The lone positive for Smith was the pitching of freshman Michael Foreman. He started and collected 10 strikeouts in just 4.2 innings pitched. All 5 runs he allowed were unearned as Smith made 12 errors behind the staff. 3 of the total 13 runs by King's Fork were earned.

Smith started 4 freshmen & 1 sophomore in the game.
