At the top of the recruiting forum of this site is the following link, which allows you to search various schools around the country and learn what their operating expenses are per player.

The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act

A search of some Texas schools revealed a wide discrepancy in spending per player (monies reported for 1-year period ending 8/31/2006):

UT - $26,418
Baylor - $14,216
Rice - $13,885
TCU - $13,540
Texas A&M - $10,175
Texas Tech - $7,818
University of Texas Arlington - $7,208
University of Houston - $7,207
University of Texas Pan American - $5,205
Dallas Baptist - $4,315
University of Texas San Antonio - $4,169
Texas State - $3,775
Texas A&M Corpus Christi - $2,103
Sam Houston State - $2,005

I was surprised to learn that Sam Houston State spends so little on its players. And yet, it did fairly well this season compared to some programs that spend way more like UT-Arlington or UT-Pan Am.

As a comparison, here are the operating expenses per player for the schools in this year's College World Series (apart from Rice, which is listed above):

Oregon State - $18,448
University of North Carolina - $5,279
University of California Irvine - $4,618
Arizona State - $12,345
Mississippi State - $6,318
University of Louisville - $7,120
Cal State Fullerton - $11,789
