Hey does anybody know if there are any possible injuries to throwing a splitfinger fstball. Just wondering, i'm starting to throw one and i want to keep my arm healthy.
A few old-timers (ie J. Sain....etc) have suggested begin throwing with a smaller separation of your fingers, and continue from there. The UCL, at the largest separation of the index and middle finger have had some issues for years (yet a few believe it's the lack of wrists 'looseness' that's created as a result of the splitting)
oriole21, A posted a question about throwing splitters a couple of weeks ago. A couple of people advised me not to throw splitters, saying it was more dangerous than throwing curves. Whether or not it is true, I have discontinued throwing the splitter, wouldn't want to risk anything. (Check out the post for more reference...)
Coach just taught me a splitter that's supposed to be easier on your fingers. I like the pitch and it feels like I'm just throwing a fast ball..so maybe it depends on your grip?
