Anybody hear about travel teams playing in the spring? I’ve heard of at least one school district in FL canceling spring sports. Some of the school coaches are trying to scramble and put their kids together as a travel team. There doesn’t seem to be many tournaments but I imagine PG or another org will put something together.

Ive also had a couple coaches reach out and ask for a contingent commitment in case the season is cancelled.

So far full steam ahead in TX. The UIL, the HS sports governing body, actually moved up the first day of practices/tryouts and beginning of games up a week on the calendar. Originally they had said no tournaments, but that has been rescinded. I think it is hard to say no tournaments when football is full blown into their state tournament and basketball is currently playing.

The football thing is what really gets me about this district cancelling spring sports. They allowed football and there are still hoops games being played. Spring sports for the most part are easily safer than hoops and football.

Yea, I think if they try to cancel spring sports with football and all the fall sports having their season and basketball having their season, there is going to be a mob of parents showing up at the UIL office with torches and pitchforks.

But what makes me scratch my head when hearing about school districts cancelling spring sports in states that are open like FL, TX, GA, etc. is that you know the kids are going to go play with the travel, select, club teams. So now instead of keeping the same group of kids to play and practice together and also go to school together, they will now be going out playing and practicing with kids from other areas and schools and then coming back to school. Seems like keeping the spring season intact deters that.
