Two recent spying cases in sports. New England's Bill Belichick, and Mclaren Racing Team. Is it cheating in sport something new?..or are we just discovering something that always have happenned? will it help, those other sports bad news, to understand what is happenning in baseball?
Faith is to believe what you don't see; The reward of this faith is to see what you believe.

Cheating?
That's not cricket!

The Hidden Language of Baseball: How Signs and Sign Stealing Have Influenced the Course of Our National Pastime

This book details the history of stealing signs in our favorite sport. It's been going on for over a century.

Sometimes I have to agree that stealing signs is cheating, but it seems the activity is a part of the game. It certainly is not in the same vein as the steroids issue. Wink

I just saw this book. I might have to check it out just for fun.

From Publishers Weekly:
Baseball blogger Zumsteg (ussmariner.com) argues that cheating-within reason-is not only not a bad thing, it actually makes baseball a more nuanced game. Using a wealth of anecdotal evidence and some statistical analysis, he argues that baseball has evolved hand-in-hand with the aid of its scoundrels, scamps, and shifty characters-and that doctoring the ball or stealing signs necessitates teams, umpires and even fans adopt more complex strategy. Zumsteg draws the line at gambling, game fixing and steroid use, showing little sympathy for the Black Sox and even less for Pete Rose. While baseball aficionados will be familiar with many of Zumsteg's stories, his wit will keep most casual fans entertained. Whether he's describing what might happen in a car crash with Pete Rose ("I admitted that I hit your car ... Can't we stop this witch-hunt and get on with our lives?") or laying blame for the steroid era on everyone from the commissioner to the fans, Zumsteg dispenses with the sanctimoniousness of most current sports writing. Although his prose style and humor are sometimes better suited to the Web (a few lengthy asides come across as amateurish), Zumsteg still creates a funny, honest look at the history of baseball's black arts.

Stealing signs in baseball??
Is that not part of the game?
Why would the coach have such elaborate movement's ( the indicator, the ear touch, the nose touch, the wiggleing fingers, ect. ). to hide his sign's.
Thats not cheating.
Thats taking advantage of what the other team give's you.
Which is differant then let's say useing a corked bat, are throwing a Doctored ball.

Not to mention his reputation and the reputation of his team. He can lead the Patriots to Super Bowls from now to the end of time and he won't be considered the greatest coach. He'll always be the cheater.

The one I read about was Miami vs FSU. Someone from Miami was watching the game on TV and relaying signs to the dugout via walkie-talkie.

Maybe in your mind but I don't think it will be considered THAT big of a deal to the rest of the public.

Do you hold Jim Morris of Miami in the same disregard?
I spy with my little eye...
something that begins with the letter....

do not look below this line if you want to guess!

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is taking a big hit: the league's maximum fine of 500,000 dollars. The team must pay 250,000 and give up its first-round draft choice if it reaches the playoffs, or second and third picks if it doesn't.
