06BBDad, my son (Erik Panek)signed there last fall and just started school there a few days ago. They are remodeling the campus and his dorm is really nice. Many nice things going on there. This is an excellent baseball program with fine academics. Now with Coach Gillespie coming back this has really increased interest in the school. They had an excellent recruiting class this past year, signing 13, and got many of the top area players. They have 51 players out for the team this fall and this should make things interesting, as they only lost 4 seniors to graduation last year. I think we can expect them to have an very good year this year seeing that most of the starting lineup and pitching staff returns. A talented freshman class will surely make for good seasons in the future for USF.

As for Coach Gillespie, what more can be said, as he is a baseball legend. Teams really gel well under his guidance and he's a winner wherever he has coached. My son is very fortunate to have him as his coach, as he truly cares about his players not only as baseball players but also as students and young men.

To top it off, the team plays at Siver Cross Field and thats quite an added benefit. This spring the team will travel to Florida instead of Texas, as they have in the past. I think the players will like flying instead of the drive to Texas.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a PM and I'll try to help you out in any way I can. Rick Panek.
Both SXU and Olivette had ben solid the past few years and I'd give the edge to SXU. This year USF returns almost all of their starters after finishing 3rd in the conference last year. This on top of an excellent recruiting class. I look for USF to be right there with SXU in the years to come. Take into consideration, Silver Cross Field, I'd give the edge now to USF!
