I have a son that will start 8th grade this year on the Illinois side of the river near St. Louis. I have done a little research on the high school summer baseball clubs in the St. Louis area and wanted to know if anyone had some insight on the following organizations.

-Rawlings Prospects
-St. Louis Pirates
-St. Louis Gamers

I have had the opportunity to see the Pirates organization and teh Gamers organization several times. You cannot find any better coaching and organization then what these programs offer..
Very good programs....Gamers are expanding their teams and both organizations are led by ex major league players...
I think though, both organizations begin at age 15;
Rawlings prospects i have not had the opportunity to see play as they dropped from one of our events earlier in the year...
For the 2009 season, the Gamers have teams from 12U to 17U. As far as player retention from one year to the next, the Gamers will retain a player for the following season (with no tryout necessary) as long as the player exhibits reasonable athletic ability on the field and the player/family represents the Gamers with dignity (good attitude, behavior, respect, etc.). Therefore, once a player is within the Gamers program, they have a definite advantage in making the next year's squad; however, as the teams move up in age, the roster size increases to carry more pitchers. This larger roster size and some normal attrition will result in open spots.

Thanks to both woodly and MoDad for your responses. The world of "prospect" clubs are a little new to me because they were not around the area where I grew up. I have gathered enough information through talking with other parents and researching the web to realize that these programs do give an advantage to a player who wishes to further his baseball career in college. My main concern is that my son will be at a disadvantage by not getting into one of these clubs at a younger age.
