Hahaha. Just saw this! JBB, you are too funny. Nope not there tonight, but we were last night. We looked good through 6, then a couple of tough innings and one big blast. Ah well, the season is young. Could not go tonight as we just finished our own HS DH, but I am watching on Gametracker!
Well, first of all, I'm back in IL now where it is about 11 degrees. SO, sitting along the first base line at Goodwin Field at Cal State Fullerton was like being in HEAVEN!!!
I suppose the game was relatively non-descript but since it was our first of the year, it was HEAVEN!!!
Stanford had a rough first inning, couple of walks, infield hit (line drive off the pitcher's foot). 3-0 CSF after one.
Zeros until about the 8th when Stanford put up a little rally and scored two. But that was it, CSF 3 Stanford 2.
We enjoyed the weather, the field, the atmosphere, watching the players warm up and how they acted during the game.
I couldn't see the Stanford bench but the CSF players were up on the dugout rail the entire game. The Stanford pitcher, who didn't have great stuff that night, SPRINTED on and off the field every inning.
In fact, one of the CSF pitchers got in a jam late. I think he's the one who got two runners on base. The coach came out to relieve him and he, too, SPRINTED off the field. AND high jumped the foul line (one of my favorite superstitions.)
We just had the greatest time there. Also checked out the campuses of Long Beach State and Cal State Irvine. Very sad to be home right now!
Biggie: Please don't dump UC Irvine in the Cal State basket....UCI...UCLA...UC Berkeley (aka Cal)are the University Of California system...Hard to get into...(grades/sat scores) and more expensive...
California Sate University....Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach....Cal State Bakersfield, and so on are cheaper and easier to get into.
No disrespect, but the recuiting at the UC system is different than the Cal State System. Alot of great ballplayers won't even be looked at due to grade requirements of the UC system.
