Looking for info on 2012 Stanford camp for a 2013 grad. The Stanford website lists an All Star/Prospect Camp June 28-July 1 but there is no online registration - just a note that "applications" will be available in late January.

What is the "application" process, and are invitations/recommendations necessary? Also, is the number of coaches/schools attending this camp comparable to those attending Headfirst?

Welcome,

Go to the "Golden" thread and read through the "Stanford" thread. Pretty much everything you will need to know is there. Call Stanford today and talk to them about the process. You will need to get your application in very quickly as there is a lottery on the selection which I think is toward the end of January.

Readers digest version: It is a Headfirst on Steroids.

Good luck.
Email this week said the invites are starting to go out in the mail next week. The list of college coaches is amazing. "Head 1st On Steriods" is great description.

BOF, can we assume that, once he gets the invitation, the app itself should go back to them right away, but timing on whether or not to go can wait until (and IF) son gets picked?

Have to decide about the timing, and the cost from east coast etc.

Baseballmom-
If your son is a good uncommitted academic 2013, you HAVE to go (or send him, which would save your hotel, flight, car, etc...we are sending ours on a plane and he will stay in the dorms...they will pick up from the airport for a nominal fee, maybe $15?)! The exposure is amazing and the talent level at the camp is eye-opening.
I have read a bit of the legacy information on the Stanford experience. I see that there are 2 versions of the prospect camp (all-star, and future stars) I gather that most of the discussion is on the all-star camp,...is there separate information on the 2014 only camp (future stars)? If we are not lucky enough to be invited, or accepted to the All-Star camp, is the Future Stars camp similar with respect to coach attendance list, etc.? Thanks

While my son attended the Stanford summer camp, they only had the one as I remember and it was what amounted to this ALL-STAR Camp. So, I'm not really sure what the difference might be. Surely though, if you want to get into a great camp, this Stanford ALL-STAR Camp is a VERY good one, if not the best. . .bar none.

To really find out some specifics as to what the differences might be that you're interested in, try contacing coach Dean Stotz at stotz32@stanford.com or stotz32@stanford.edu. He's a really good guy and will mostly likely try to reply to you.

WElefty,
My understanding is the Futures Camp is quite a bit different.
It was started in the last 5 or so years.
It really is to look at those going into their sophomore and junior seasons.
Another difference is all games are played on Sunken Diamond because the Camp is quite a bit smaller in terms of player numbers. The talent levels are quite high, though.
Finally, it does not have the number of coaches who attend the All Star Camp itself. The All Star Camp is getting up near 100 coaches attending/watching.
From my understanding, the Futures Camp might have 20 or so.
Hope this summary helps.
My son is a 2014 catcher who has been told by coaches and some local scouts that he has the skills to be cosidered by top D1s and a to be drafted. Since these people have given him this feedback he has started to dream big, and he is interested in schools that have top academics and top baseball programs like Stanford, Rice, Vanderbilt, Texas, North Carolina, UCLA, etc. . . . In your educated opinions, which camp would be best for him to be considered by Stanford, (and if he does not turn out to be that good, the Ivies).
If your son wants to get in front of the Stanford coaches, he certainly could not go wrong trying to get an invite to the 2012 Futures Camp, which should be limited to 2014's.
What I don't know is the extent to which, if any, Ivy coaches attend that camp.
A number of Ivy coaches have had a presence at the All Star camp for many years.
Thank you for the information,..it was just what I was looking for. I think we will roll the dice and hope to attend the All-Star camp,...but keep the Futures as an option. If either happens it will make for a complicated couple of weeks as the PG event for 2014s (FT. Myers) is sandwiched between the 2 camps, with a little overlap on either end. I am going to guess that the advice of this board would be to miss a few days of the PG event for the opportunity to attend either of the Stanford events (goal is to compete against elite competition, and possibly gain exposure)

At the All-Star camp, your son would be playing against the best 2013s....definitely more rising seniors than rising juniors at the camp.
Coach Stotz is perhaps the best recruiter in college baseball. His emails are famous for their personal touch.

I think some people will naturally read more into his emails than they should, but I also think people should respect Coach Stotz's privacy.

He is a guy who answers his own phone. No reason to publish his cell phone number.

He's a class act, and I always found that he treated people in an exemplary way. Maybe others have some axe to grind.
Not me. He told my son he was on the short list, but he chose another kid (whose mother is a member of this board.) That's the way it goes.

And he called my son when he committed to his school and congratulated him, wished him luck etc.

Stand up guy, I would have been proud had my son played for him. Didn't happen that way, but I thought he handled everything fine the whole way.

Son was invited to attend the stanford June 28-July 1 all star camp. We're still trying to gauge if being given a spot at this camp is any indication they think he has college ball skills or maybe intersted in him, or if this is just like many other showcases that admit basically anyone willing to pay the fees. It it is the latter, we know of some other less expensive/closer showcases that also give exposure to a lot of coaches, so we'd prefer to do something less expensive and closer to home, unless stanford is really worth it to attend. It appears they are opening up a second all star camp in August for the first time, so they seem to be expanding the pool of players they admit. Any advice/input would be appreciated.
