A good friend and HS teammate of my 04 son is considering starting on medication for ADD for his upcoming soph year of college. The young man was diagnosed with ADD some years ago but never took medication or asked for special accommodations in school. He's a very bright kid and now he's in a Pre-Dental program in college and finding that the focus/attention span issues are harder to "work around" as the curriculum gets more technical and the workload gets heavier. (He's not playing baseball in college.)
Does anyone have any experience with this issue, either adults or teens who have started on ADD medication late in life? Of course he is getting advice from a doctor, but is also interested in any real-life stories of the pros and cons of starting medication. My son thinks the friend is considering Adderall (Adderol?), which is effective for about 6 hours per dose, and hoping to take it only on school days, once per day.
