Stat Software

Try "Statcrew". It calculates everything. It doesn't even take a long time to get used to using. I would try it a tv game before using it live so you get used to it.

We use this one and like it a lot. One of the nicest features is you can create a web link from the program to post the stats online. It's very easy to use, anyone viewing the stats online can sort by any stat they choose, see individual players, etc. And it was cheap - $12. I hope the link works:

I use scorepad and like it. There are some things you've got to learn to get the best results; i.e. scoreing a 6-E3, you have to intially score it an E3, then open the at bat details and add the assist.

I started using Turbo Stats last January.

Any that work on a Mac?

I have turbo stats 10.0 on my PC in my office and would like to switch over to a palm pilot or hand held scoring device. Anyone know what I would need to make the switch? I've emailed turbostats asking this same question, but haven't heard back.

This info is available on the turbostats website (www.turbostats.com). You don't need to "switchover" per se. It's more of adding the PDA scoring capability. This is a separate piece of software called ScoreKeeper. Current versions are 7.0 for ScoreKeeper and 12.0 for TurboStats. I believe that ScoreKeeper only works on the Palm O/S and you may or may not need to upgrade Turbostats at the same time. Games which you score on the PDA can be downloaded to your PC, then TurboStats can calculate all the statistics and generate reports. So, they are a good package of programs to have to do both scorekeeping and statistical analysis/reporting.

Im sure there are many out there, I have used Statleaders.com for about 10 years norw and love it!

It keeps lifetime state for each player and relates these to team stats... shows streaks and how a batter does at each batting position you put them in.

Great software, all done online. ... I think it costs $25 per year.

I use StatTrak for Baseball by All Pro Software. I like it. They even give you a free website with no fees. Your players, coaches, etc... can check out their stats. It also has a news page, picture gallery, etc... It is really easy to use. Here's the link

Just now found this old thread... I use Scorepad. It was buggy in the first version, causing my pda to do random resets.

I upgraded and have never had that bug again. Sadly, I am on a Mac, so I can't transfer to the desktop since they don't have a Mac version. Therefore, I just keep them on the pda.

I am only scorekeeping for myself, not in any official capacity. I have learned a TON from using this program. I'm not that accurate, but have gotten better in the three years I've been using it.

My goal is to be good enough to AT LEAST volunteer to keep the books for a little league team now that my kids are all grownup, but no one is going to want me for even that if my children have a say -- they think I'm the world's worst for knowing what's going on!

OK... I have to ask. Those that score using a Palm, do you find yourself getting behind when trying to make a change or correction during a play? Maybe I'm just an analog guy that likes to freedom to erase. Will Palm software allow for corrections during a play or is it so cumbersome that you get lost?

Also, does the software allow for frequent subs?

Perhaps the real questions before shelling out the money is what are the pros and cons?

I have used Scorekeeper on a Palm for 5 years. the lastest version allows multiple "undo"'s, so it is easy to fix, If it is very messed up, you can also edit past AB's but that can get crazy in the middle of a game.
I synch the Palm to my PC and use Turbostats which does a great job of compiling all the stats.
Last fall ball season, I kept the pencil and paper score book AND did the scoring on the Palm.
Don't try to use the Palm Tungsten E. Battery life is abut one game. The Palm Tungsten E2 is satisfactory for 2-3 games.

Most colleges and universities use StatCrew. It's a little pricey, but if you have the patience it will calculate any stat you ever wanted to know. i.e. BA against left handed pitchers when the count is 2-1 and it's a night game on turf. Might be too much for the casual user...

The main difference I can see is that it is player centered (each player has their own username and maintains their own stats). This works great for me because as far as I know my kid's coach doesn't track the stuff.

You can still "share" a team and have other players on the team join the team.

Another cool feature is the "Widgets". The widgets allow you to paste some code into your personal website or blog and it shows career stats or season stats or next game or last game results.

Not sure if there will be a charge eventually, but right now they are asking for testers and it is free.

I've used ScorePad for a number of years now. The latest version is quite clean and easy to use, and the "deluxe" combination package allows you to do full scoring on both the Palm OS device and on the PC. I score on the Palm device, and then sync to the PC at home after the game. The PC software allows you to generate HTML versions of the scoresheet, newspaper quality box scores, team and individual stats pages, pitch charts, spray charts and pitch sequences by batter. I've put all of that stuff up on our team website, and the kids and parents enjoy that alot.

The one bug I've run into occurs occasionally when a runner is on base, and you're trying to score a FC. If you do things in the wrong order here, the program will lock up, requiring a reset of the Palm device. Fortunately, you only have to re-enter that at-bat when things come back. Real pain in the bum when you are in the coaches box, though!
