People have been saying all thru the playoffs Poteet can't handle whoever they were playing, Mckinney, Corsicana, HP, Kilgore and on an on. Sooner or later you are just going to have to face it, Poteet is good and can play with anyone in the state.

Not to be a Poteet apologist, but they are 18-4 against playoff teams this year. They were 7-1 against 4A opponents in the regular season and 6-1 in the playoffs. They were 4-2 against 5A playoff foes, including a good win over Klein Oak (three rounds deep in 5A). They also beat Texarkana Liberty-Eylau, which is the defending 3A champion, in a warm-up game.
Based on all I've read, I'm assuming Poteet has the ability to compete against scr appy Moody. But the players had better gird themselves for the reception they'll receive from the Trojans. Moody players and fans are notorious for their smack talk and heckling. The parents oftentimes can be even more obnoxious than the players.

Everyone keeps talking about Moody playing Poteet I think Texas City and Randall might have a little something to say about that. Moody is good but they still have to play the semi-finals there is no free pass into the finals. Same for Poteet they have to beat a very good Texas City team. Both PHS and Moody better not be looking past the semi-finals.

Here is my new bold prediction one of these 4 will win state.

Athletes will use just about anything to rally around, particularly during the playoffs.
Superstitions such as rally monkeys, trinkets and sweaty socks are methods some players have used to sway lady luck to their side.

The 4A Canyon-Randall (Amarillo's) baseball team may have some superstitious players, but the entire team has rallied behind the battle cry of "just believe" throughout the postseason run that has the Raideres making their first appearance in the UIL state baseball tournament.

The "just believe" battle cry started two years ago when shortstop Brad Propst's mother, Diane Propst, was diagnosed with cancer. She was close to the team, having kept the scorebook and developing friendships with the players. "They started it back then to 'just believe' that she's going to be OK," Randall head coach David Walden said. Diane Propst had designed a necklace engraved with the slogan, and every player on the team wears one to this day.

After Diane Propst died of cancer on May 27, 2007, the team decided to stitch the slogan on the sleeves of their jerseys. "The day after Mrs. Propst passed away, we took the jerseys down to J&M sporting goods, and he put those on their for us," Walden said. "It's just something we've all taken to heart." The chemistry among the Randall players is clear, and each member genuinely cares about his teammates. When one player struggles, the entire team is there to pick him up.

My pick? I love the hearts in the men of Canyon-Randall. Not only did they make it to the state tournament for the first time in school history & start against the #1 team in state, they truly know how precious life & love is. What a story!

Having a Slogan or Anagram on the uniform is not new to these young men of Canyon-Randall. In 2003 I was lucky enough to coach the North Texas HS All Stars with Coach Ribera. (Now at Cedar Hill) They had WTLG (WIN THE LAST GAME) on the back of their hats and I finally couldn't stand it and asked Steve what it meant. I then asked for permission to use it at the Rock. 2004 Regional Finals resulted and then we came up with OMS (One More Step) for our hats in 2005. Earned a State Final Appearance. These fine young men and their new coach obviously have taken it up another notch. I know Steve is as proud of them as he would be if he was still there. Way to go Coach Walden.

Congrats Poteet!

Who pitched today?

Best of luck in the finals!

Nice photo with the article in today's paper!

Johnny Reily started first 2 innings, struggled a little (sophomore nerves I am sure) Charley Westmoreland came in and pitched really well the final 5 innings. We were down 3-0 in the 4 inning we got one run in then worked the bases loaded and JT files came to the plate with 2 outs. He took the first pitch deep and out for a grand slam. Scored 1 more insurance run RBI by Teddy.
