Son pitched Fri. night and we don't know how to score this inning. Its trivial, but my curiosity is getting the best of me. Don't you love baseball and all it's finer points?

Batter 1 - K
Batter 2 - BB
Batter 3 - K, runner steals second
Batter four - count 1-2, son executes pick-off move and runner is out in run down between 2nd and 3rd. Inning over.
I know the batter is not an official at bat and will be up next inning. My questions are this:
How many batters did my son face in this inning?
Do the pitches from the batter (1-2 count) go on my sons pitch count and balls to strikes ratio? He did throw them, but they don't count in the game, so how do they count for the pitcher?
Thanks!
KC

In general, I agree with TRhit.

But to answer your question, from a pure "stats" perspective, the AB of batter 4 never occurred, therefore (IMHO) those pitches would not "count".
Of all the items you mentioned though, an official scorekeeper would only really record (from a boxscore perspective) Batters faced. And I am pretty darn sure Batter #4 would not count in your scenario.
Any dissenting opinions?
3 batters faced, but pitches to batter 4 are still counted.

Pitch counts are not really a statistic of the game so much as a monitoring of the pitcher's health. So, you want to keep track of them whether the at bat counts or not, since you need an accurate tab of the wear and tear on your pitcher. Also you would want to know if his ball/strike ratio starts to get out of whack, as this would be a sign of fatigue.
Midlo Dad...
You hit on the reason why I asked this question. We are tracking his strike/ball ratio in an effort to help him improve before college.
TRhit... I warned you in the first paragraph that my question was trivial! Yes, his college is posting PI and ST, which I assume are pitches and strikes, on their stats page.
Thanks for the answers!
TR...
I said I warned you, and anyone else reading my post, that my question was trivial. Nothing else. All those exclamation points lead me to believe that we're not on the same page here.
"Virual/real"? I must be dense because I'm not following you.
In the big scheme of life, my question is not important. I just knew someone here with more knowledge than me would have an answer. I often hit the delete button before becoming involved in discussions. I think I remember why!
