Sit him down and look at videos of hitters on this site and others (maybe Baseball Fever: http://www.baseball-fever.com/...5c29c69a0c4b49&f=53).

Take notice how the body moves when loading and unloading. In that process, you will see the shoulders pinching closed as the lower body is moving forward. That allows them to behind "behind" the hips in the loading and unloading process.

I am willing to bet you that your son's shoulders open at the same time as his hips because they are loading and unloading together.

Look at different player's swings, but notice the similarities in the process. That will educate you on things to work on.

I'm no expert by any means..but you might want to post some video.

The reason I say this is that what might seem to be "front shoulder flying open" might actually be caused by something else.

One thing I have noticed with my son and a few of my other hitters, they tend to "straighten up" during the swing..and most times this comes down to trying to kill the ball. This makes them look like they are opening up, but actually that is happening after the swing.

These are all "rotational" guys that use alot of hips and core in the swings, and they all are consistent with good power at at the plate.

One thing that has helped all of them, almost immediately, is to make sure they are tilted (think head over the plate / butt out) DURING the swing. This helps keep them closed down longer, which adds power without swinging harder.

Just my lowly 2 cents.

Many years ago Mike Diaz *Pirates 1b/OF] and myself operate a clinic in Northern California.

Mike related a strong tip for the players who "pull their head". "HIT THE BALL WITH YOUR FRONT SHOULDER"!!

This is a positive statement. Any parent, player or coach can yell this to the hitter for instant correction.

Did you know that they placed, brain wave monitors on the greatest golf pros. There was no brain activity when they were at the golf tee.

The great hitters are the same. They had practiced their swing, thousand of times and they do not think
"how do I look" or "where are my hands".

They react to the pitched baseball and swing the bat
"quick" with explosion.

Travel to Australia with our teams and you will observe this adjustment by our young hitters
in 12 games in 14 days against the Australian professional pitchers.
