Steroid Hypocrisy

I don't get it either--why is baseball held to such a higher standard? Maybe it all goes back to an ancient thought process from gladiator times that if the "sport" uses up and destroys the bodies of the contestants anyway what does it matter if the guy is a criminal, a cheater or even a thug.

There are non-destructive pitching mechanics that also work better and does not involve a huge dome and enlarged heart.

If the NFL drug enforcement was actually real there would be no players.

Cushing was awarded by the AP, not MLB. I'm not sure it's fair to compare the organizing body with a media outlet.

That being said, your point is not lost and are probably correct that there is a double standard.

ESPN first reported Cushing as testing positive for a steroid; several hours later, they changed it to a PED. Big difference.

After the reported failed testing he was tested periodically for the rest of the season and was clean. I'm happy with the descision to let him keep his award.

One was suspended for 30% of his season and one was suspended for 25% of his season. Not much of a difference. Yes 50 verses 4 is a big difference but remember its 50 of 162 verses 4 of 16.

Lets face it, the MLB has had a checkered past with PEDs and general drug use for a long time. The blind eye turned toward drug use during 80s and PED use in the 90's is now legendary. We let guys like Daryl Strawberry and Steve Howe get away with drug offenses again and again. The whole steroid thing was ridiculous in the 90's with guys like Sosa and McGuire and Bonds posting stupid stats. BAseball ignored exactly what these guys did to create those stats and instead revelled in their 'accomplishments'.

That hypocricy will take a long time to go away.
