Pile on the negative health consequences and their fundamental illegality and it would appear that rationalization for PEDS wouldn't float. Yet people try.

Don't you feel that the union was so strong in baseball all thru the 80's and early 90's that the players thought they had protection to do about anything and their baseball livelihoods could not be touched.
Don't you feel they thought, "man if Steve Howe can use cocaine and stuff, and baseball is okay with that, me bending the rules by using ped shouldn't even cause a bleep on the radar screen."

Skipper, as skewed as that thinking is I'm afraid you may be right. Add in today's narcisstic society mixed with instant gratification and waaaa-laaaaa....here we are.
Listening to the news..... we are society in a mess. Parents killing their children, woman attacked in broad daylight at a mall, children ubducted out of their beds at night, people scamming others of millions, etc., etc.
Steroid and HGH use by those who make millions just doesn't concern me at this time.

Heard a great interview on Jim Rome's show today with Doug Glanville (HouseofGlanny here on the HSBBW). Glanny is articulate and thoughtful, and he offers good perspective on the union v. owners battle re: PED usage and disclosure. Also relevant was the discussion on civil rights issues underscoring drug testing.
