How are showcase players selected? In the East Suburban Catholic, Notre Dame has 6 players represented and Nazareth has 5 while schools such as Carmel and JCA have 2 and 1 respectively?

Coaches vote during the all-conference selection meeting in the NSC. They do have a loose formula that they are asked to adhere to - only so many pitchers and catchers, for example - but otherwise it's up to each coach to promote his players.

Notre Dame and Nazareth coaches seem to be doing a fine job of promoting their kids. It will be interesting to see how their teams do in 2011 against the rest of the conference that has far fewer kids in the showcase.

Silver & Black showcase at Triton 6/21-45 Colleges represented, 10 MLB teams, played two, lots of AB's and innings played-great exposure. One more day at Elgin CC next week-and it was F R E E...

And there were only 50 invites.

Who sends out the invites for the Silver & Black?

For Stevenson & Plainfield, the answer is a HUGE amount. Tons of colleges represented, lots of opportunity to see players. This event is the cream of the crop of local showcase events.

I'm not sure what your point here is? Is it to bash the Stevenson/Plainfield showcase by promoting Silver/Black?

The answer I gave is based on my experience with how many kids make contacts with college coaches and are eventually recruited as a result of the exposure they received at Stevenson/Plainfield. It's way more than the 50 invites available to Silver/Black. Besides, if Silver/Black is inviting the top 50 kids in the area, don't you think the recruiters and scouts have already identified those kids?

Stevenson/Plainfield is a showcase where probably the greatest assemblage of coaches from all over the country coming in the state get the opportunity to "discover" HS talent that hasn't yet been fully vetted...along with the top 50 players.

I think the two events are wholly different in what they attempt to bring to the recruiting table. Silver/Black is limited to the elite player only, while Stevenson/Plainfield is a much broader talent pool.

Out of state coaches attend too. You never know who is there.

Junior is not/was not a top 50 player. But, he is going to play DII in St. Lou. How? Coach saw him at Stevenson last year.

CPLZ-I am not bashing anything or anyone-I just answered a question from CSG and asked a question. I am not a Silver & Black horn blower. Smaller venue, more exposure is my point sir.

If two players worked with two coaches for 2 hours, and 20 players worked with 5 coaches for 2 hours, which received more exposure? I would say the 20 players since they were exposed to more coaches, even though the encounter was less intimate. Under that premise, your claim of more exposure doesn't hold up.

So if a kid was not invited to the Silver & Black he then has no chance of trying out for the Area Code team?
