This is the collaborative product of the National Pitching Association, led by Tom House & Jamie Evans, the Coaches you saw in the HBO piece. Tom and Jamie are great. My son has worked with both for a number of years. You can begin to learn more by visiting:

National Pitching Association

First thing a player (or parent) must understand is that this is a lot more than just a throwing program. The "weighted implement" training is the peak of a pyramid of strength and conditioning training that prepares the body to be ready to safely follow this throwing program and experience the benefits.

My son was one of the first HS kids in the country introduced to this training program (early in 2010), and through it he saw significant gains in velocity (6 mph in 6 months). A non-related injury set him back, but he is now healthy, has regained most of the gains he had previously made, and will be back in full swing with the program when his body is fully prepared.

It works. It is exciting and amazing to see the gains these players can make. But it is hard work, not magic. The player has to be ready to commit to push himself to become his very best, and be very disciplined in his training. We have seen a number kids start and fail, because they did not have the maturity and motivation to do the hard work.
Redbird and Southpaw...the throwing program that you are referring to(the NPA velocity program) was neither invented nor even designed or aided by Jamie Evans. It was the collaborative work of Tom House, Dr. Greg Rose at the Titelist Performance Center, with input from Dr. James Andrews and Steve Johnson. Johnson was then the first to bring this information to the Mid-Atlantic area, with Evans first meeting House and Johnson at an NPA Camp in Bethesda, Maryland in 2008. Mr.Evans seems to have an increasing tendancy to market that it is "HIS" velocity program or something that he invented from the "glory of god's help" as he says on his website. This is flat out not true. Let's give credit where credit is due, and I will merely give Mr.Evans credit for using someone else's information for his own financial benefit, and then attributing it as his own work.
quote:
Tom has this to say about James [Jamie Evans]. “James is a great learner, teacher and coach. He knows the NPA methodology, the science, and the instructional techniques to not only make great pitchers, but great athletes. I can’t see every young player in this country, so it is great to have James out there taking on some of the load to ensure players around the country get the best information and coaching available.”
