This is the collaborative product of the National Pitching Association, led by Tom House & Jamie Evans, the Coaches you saw in the HBO piece. Tom and Jamie are great. My son has worked with both for a number of years. You can begin to learn more by visiting:
National Pitching AssociationFirst thing a player (or parent) must understand is that this is a lot more than just a throwing program. The "weighted implement" training is the peak of a pyramid of strength and conditioning training that prepares the body to be ready to safely follow this throwing program and experience the benefits.
My son was one of the first HS kids in the country introduced to this training program (early in 2010), and through it he saw significant gains in velocity (6 mph in 6 months). A non-related injury set him back, but he is now healthy, has regained most of the gains he had previously made, and will be back in full swing with the program when his body is fully prepared.
It works. It is exciting and amazing to see the gains these players can make. But it is hard work, not magic. The player has to be ready to commit to push himself to become his very best, and be very disciplined in his training. We have seen a number kids start and fail, because they did not have the maturity and motivation to do the hard work.
