Over the years of reading this site I have noticed that some folks hold some strange notions (and spark some interesting debates because of them):

Here are the first three I can think of:

1 - Pitchers who throw heat, can't control the ball.

2- Talented players don't work as hard.

3- If a kid is better in HS than he was in LL, it proves that the coach was an idiot.

Any others you can think of? (sorry if I cause any knashing of teeth or knuckle popping over this)

AParent, so true. I think there are many things that are accepted as fact....but are they really true? I say not.

Residents of WVA marry their cousins...
LHP are inherently different...
Catchers are always tough...
Women don’t understand baseball...
Southern colleges are academically inferior..
Northern boys can’t play baseball..
Scouts are out to take advantage of players..
Velocity is second to control...
The HSBBW is just another website..

How did you come up with that, eh? Don't you remember when the Jays celebrated the World Series' of 92 and 93 by spraying each other with maple syrup rather than champagne?

Oh you meant players FROM Canada...I'll have you know that snowballs make for the best curveballs and icicles make solid bats-they never break!

"Pitchers who throw heat, can't control the ball."

I find this to be a very valid generalization.

At the little league level, I have one kid who can throw 30% harder than anyone else on the team but who can't throw strikes if there's a batter in the box.

At the professional level at least Sandy Koufax (and possibly Nolan Ryan as well) had problems with control that were only fixed by not trying to throw as hard.

Hmmmm. Our LL team had three pitchers that threw harder than most in the league and also threw strikes. One is in pro ball (as an outfielder, blazing speed and great contact hitter) and the other two are playing DI ball.

Another "generalization", almost all hard throwers are still playing baseball at some level.
