Me too,..this is just my opinion from our experiences:
Never been to a baseball showcase that asked what weight my son benched.
They did ask about, and time him on, his speed while running and arm strength when throwing. In addition to the previous mentioned, agility and smooth footwork tend to be issues most baseball coaches/scouts comment on.
I too have a shortstop, who happens to play Varsity football also. He has to balance both his speed and weight training during the respective ball seasons. Son playes receiver though, not linebacker,..so speed is again a necessary factor.
As far as weighlifting is concerned, core strength seems key to my son as a player of both sports.
Hope this helps in some tiny way!
P.S.
( Son works with our highschool track coach on the side. She has been very helpful at tweeking his body positions, placement of hands, stride, etc. She feels this will help to shave off time when son is being timed. Perhaps its mind over matter but I have noticed that my son seems to feel more confident after having trained with her. My older son who was a linebacker, shorter & much stockier than younger son, worked with her too, and his times dramatically improved! )
