Son started the year hitting with a very high Slugging %.  2 HRs and multiple doubles.  Struggled with being way ahead of really slow HS pitching. Fast pitching, no problem.  Moved to more of front foot hover.  Kind of a short stride. Ball is still hit really hard but a 0-5 degree launch angle. Finding holes but not making the warning track anymore. Batting average up, slugging down.

He's started playing around with a wider no stride/lift.  Haven't seen the results in a game yet. He said the change brought the ball angle up.

I guess my question is, does a stride provide more power or is it all in the hips? The other question would be which to emphasize, power vs BA?

There are very good powerful no stride hitters. It is important though that you still have some kind of forward momentum into the lead leg block, don't just sit back and tap your toe

I do believe though that some momentum can help especially smaller hitters to gain some power.

If his launch angle is lower on stride swings he probably is not able to control his forward momentum and staying behind the front leg and thus losing posture forward.

Can you post a swing with stride here or send me a direct message if you don't want to do it publicly?

There are plenty of successful hitters with and without a stride. My son's instructors really stress keeping the hips back. When my son's hips go forward he's always late. His front foot drifts forward and his hips follow. Leads to not getting his foot down in time. When his hips stay back his foot comes down just fine and he can mash. They made his feet much wider and he goes into a leg kick but the front foot comes down in the same spot.
