Fastball good point, my response is in your post. What if the #2 stud can't get it done. Bring in the third front-line guy...everything is OK, don't have one and throw mid-tier kid, he gets torched and you get sent home.
In Top Travel events you need 6 front-liners to take the ship.
When #2 gets in trouble, it is #1 who is brought in, not mid-level #3. Coaches like to live and die with their #1. Most teams make it downstate using 2 pitchers in the playoffs.
I should have said in game 2, pitcher #2 gets in trouble. #1 is on Ice in the dugout from winning game one going the distance.
The reason I said you need three is in case one or two have an off game. Then you need that third pitcher to step up. Look at the past teams that won state and you will find that one guy who could come in and stop a rally.
2bagger - That is my point. I also think that playing against everybody's aces takes it's toll on you. Especially the players who are not the studs of the team but often times make up the team's true heart. When they have to play against the toughest, it can wear them down. This is where a quality coach can make the difference.

If our No#3 develops a dependable change, there is a strong chance we will go to a three man rotation no matter the match-up (Wright, Monroe, Rischke, Gailey, Limjoco). 1st time I ever felt this strongly about our staff.

Benchwarmer, Excellent point!
benchwarmer, I think playing against everbody's ace toughens you up and gets you ready for tournament time. Does it takes a toll on your individual stats in conference play, yes, but it should toughen your team up for when you get to the rest of the season.

2Bagger, Individual stats..You start getting into trouble in this game when you start comparing and contrasting individual stats. Being happy for a teammates success is great when it comes naturally and if the kid is raised that way and his coach instills the collaborative effort, well then, you may have something there. When the stats become the priority, the team loses!
Hey ibach what I was doing was comparing the stats from one conference to another not one teammate to another. If you are playing in a conference that faces the number one pitcher every time they play as oppose to a conference that has a series and you face the number 1, 2 and 3 it makes a big difference in the individual stats that people do keep track of, probabl your service I assume looks at stats of players when you are naming 12 year old all americans. Please do not insult me again and judge how I would coach a player or raise a child. I find your implications towards me very insulting!!!! If you knew anything about me you would realize that I do not coach players to be worried about individual stats.
2Bagger, My post wasn't intended to get you mad, I was just commenting on the problems associated when individual stats become a burden and hamper the efforts of the team and the goals they set as a "team". There was nothing directed at you personally

Ibach, this is the second time on this thread I have had to remind you about the topic.
Playball, Today we band together and lay down thy weapons, for the Bears will need all the positive Karma they can get! Armistice Day!
Where was the Karma when I needed it last week?, I am a jets fan. J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Hopin it won't get me kicked off the site.
Strongest conference?.....that would be the ACC!
ACC is outstanding, But IMHO the best conference in college baseball is the SEC.
ACC:
4 teams @ the CWS........2006
5 teams in the top 13....2007
In my opinion the SEC is now # 2.

How are the conferences standing up to the pre season hype? What schools look good and whos hasnt?
how does the dupage valley conference fair?naperville,st charles, etc
Down Springfield way (Central State 8) Chatham (6-0) living up to pre-season hype, Taylorville 12-2, Jacksonville 6-0, Lincoln 7-4, and Springfield 8-4 off to good starts. Sacred Heart Griffin 3-8 apparently undergoing rare rebuilding year. In Class A look to see at least one of following at state - Rochester, Beardstown, AC Central/Virginia.
Bump
It is now mid season
