I'm currently and active duty Army Officer living in Weston, Fl (near Ft. Lauderdale). I've been doing a lot of research over the last year on the Submarine Pitching style to help my 13 y/o son with his natural RH submarine ability. Both I (1970s-1980s in N Palm Beach, FL) and my grandfather (1920's-1930's in Canada) pitched submarine style. My son has always been able to do well sidearm and submarine while playing 3rd base and he has always used in his regular overhand pitching. He pitched a complete 54 pitch game 2 hitter in Cooperstown last year with the Parkland, Fl Pokers vs. an Elite 32 ranked "RBI RANGERS" from Knoxville, TN for the win. He has been closing for his travel baseball teams here in S. Florida with his submarine style against 13U, 14U, 15U and 16U Travel and JV HS teams. He has only had a few hits off his fastball and none off his Slider (it's sick). He averages 5-9 pitches per inning with no walks. Although he's only going into 8th Grade next year he has been playing up with 15U/16U summer JV HS teams as a very effective closer. I'm trying to get as much info on the submarine style training, videos, books, coaching, camps, etc.

For a minute there I thought you were just a proud Papa bragging about your submariner. Hahahaha
There's lots of information on the internet as well as folks on this website that can help you walk through their path. Leftysidearmom has good information and her son plays D-1. I know Miss State has a "drop down" pitching camp exclusively for the sidearm/lower angle pitchers. It's in December and might be worth a look.
Welcome to the site. For some quick references, in the search box, type "submarine". There are several existing threads and even a link to a sidearm/submarine dedicated site.
Be sure to hang around HSBBW for help with the journey. Things are probably different now than they were in the 70's and 80's

Good luck at the camp and I would love to hear your impressions of the camp. Our son is a 6' 4" 2015 RH submariner. The camp was very attractive to us, but getting to Starkville in the middle of mid-terms was too hard.
Thats a great ht for pitching ! My son (Sean) is only 5-7 now but has size 13.5 and 14 shoes and his 19 y/o sister is 5-11 so he hopes he will hit at least 6'-4''. Thank god he's not wrestling and playing football anymore, the cost of shoes were killing me.
BTW, I forgot to mention how interesting it is that your son is a 3rd generation submarine pitcher. That is really neat.
Good luck at the camp and let us know how it went. I'm sure they'll have some great pointers and your son may also get some tip from other campers.
Eric,
Is your son is playing for the Rattlers? A few players on the team were my son's summer teammates this year. ( SF Breakers)
It's a small world...
Hello Rob,
I'm the Mgr for the Rattlers 14/15u Maroon (took over after George). Yes, we have James R (former Breakers) on the team, and what a great pleasure he is to have on the team. We had a lot of fun this season, and did great for a new team. Made the FPBL DIV I playoffs next week that will be very competitive. I actually met Evan Thomas (ex-Phillies pitcher) thru Breakers team and have had him doing our team pitchng instruction (great person !).
My son roomed with James and his family at a PG event over the summer... Good people.
Good luck this weekend - hopefully the weather clears.
Where is your son going for HS?
We live across the street from Cypress Bay HS so hopefully we can stay here after I transition out of the military so he can attend CBHS. Our Rattlers team coach is Coach Liotti from CBHS Baseball. Sean and few other players played for him in the Summer HSBN league, great coach & person, the players & parents really respect him (makes my job easy).
My son is pitching for Cooper City, so I suspect we will be seeing a lot of each other over the next few years.
It's always a plus having a good HS coach with stability.
SUBMARINE pitchers rock. Sean had his debut last night pitching for South Florida SHOCKWAVE against 18u Varsity Team from Everglades HS in Miramar, FL. I have to say that all the information we researched thru this site and SIDEARM Nation paid off. He came in and closed down the top of their line-up with a first pitch pop-up to 2B, then 2 Ks with tailing off fastballs and sliders, a nasty sinker and a sneaky over the top 67 MPH inside fast ball catching the lefty batter totally off guard for the 6-4 save. It was funny that the other team had players with beards and his teammates were talking about who drove to the game. I told him he could've offered to give someone a ride home on his bike handlebars. I believe he's the youngest player in the league. I think what was most important was that the SHOCKWAVE team members took Sean right in as one of them from the moment he entered the dugout. Great bunch of players, coaches and family members, going to have a great time playing with them.
Congratulations Eric. Great to hear about his successes.
Thanks 13LHPdad. I can't believe I didn't have my video camera. Hopefully will have repeat performance today at TAMARAC SPORTS complex (3pm) vs. Plantation HS Varsity Team. Will have video and camera today.
Thanks again,
Eric
