Okay... so here's the deal. My son's a junior about to be senior. He's been receiving a fair number of letters/e-mails/invites to Jr. Days (approximately 15 so far... primarily D1). He plays on a select team. Will be going to the Area Code Tryouts. Playing at tournaments primarily... through mid-July.

Should we be trying to fit in other events? (ie, PG showcases/college showcases/etc.) I'm particularly curious on opinions on the one day college camps. If it matters, my son says, "There is NO such thing as too much baseball." His words... not mine.

Thanks in advance.

You and your son need to find out the answers to certain questions. Where does he want to go to school? Is staying close to home a priority or does he want to branch out? What kind of academic situation is best for him? Does he want to be a lawyer or a doctor, etc after college or has he not yet made up his mind? What kind of a coach/program are you looking for in college? Does he have the talent to be drafted?

There are other questions that should be addressed ASAP. After that, you can decide what direction to take with this very important summer. If there are one or two schools that he is particularly interested in, then try to get an invitation to their summer camp if they have one. If no camp, call the coach and see what showcases or camps they regularily attend and try to get invited to them.

If you have no college preference and just want to see what options are out there in Texas, then i would agree with grateful that Area Code tryouts and select team schedule should do it.

If you want to get on MLB radar, there are several local MLB tryouts during the summer that he may want to attend. The information regarding the dates and locations of such tryouts usually appears in local papers in the sport's section. Also, you can get on the Major League Baseball website and get into the dates for tryout camps by team.

Good luck.
