I wanted to find out what some of the best summer college baseball leagues are. My son is playing his freshman season at a JC this coming spring and his coach has recommended the Puget Sound league and he also mentioned the Arizona Wood bat league. Any help on where to send him or experiences you have had would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello,
I played in the AZ Wood Bat League for the past 2 summers, and am most likely going to play in it again next summer. It is a pay-and-play league, so just about anyone college-aged can play. It's about $500 for pitchers, $600ish or so for position players. If you're from out of state there's an extra cost for staying in the Barrett Honors Dorms at ASU (which is the nicest dorm at ASU). I would say for the most part, it is mainly consisted of local junior college players, and out of state D2, D3, and NAIA players. There are a few sprinkles of D1 players. There's also a small mix of players too that are unsigned college players, or players that just graduated high school.
Overall, it's great. Coaches are really cool and flexible, and you will get your work in. You will get innings, at bats, so playing time will never be an issue. You play in all the spring training fields in the Phoenix area, so that's definitely really nice. Last two years majority of the games were at Salt River Fields, which is the Dbacks/Rockies spring training facility (IMO nicest in AZ). Unfortunately, it's not that heavily scouted or attended, just pretty much family and friends of players. If that's what you're looking for I would suggest maybe getting a friend of family member to film your games and send it to coaches or scouts. It's a 6 week schedule, games 5 days a week Monday through Friday. It's really hot though, so really stay hydrated and bring lots of sunscreen. If you have any other questions, let me know! Perhaps we can play on the same team next summer. Haha.
