Sun Field

Last week I did a sub-varsity game at this field and by the time the sun was going down I noticed that the sun was in the eyes of the pitcher ss and 2b! I was concerned for the players. This week I have been assigned a Varsity game and the sun is supposed to be out. Can I do anything if the sun is in the eyes of the pitcher?

What if the sun was in the eyes of the batter? A 85+ mph fast ball, coming right out of the sun?
Three things you can do:
1. Nothing.
2. Let them put on sun glasses.
3. If you really feel it's unsafe, delay the game till conditions improve.

There was a college game between Saint Lawrence University and Colgate played in the mid 70's which was called after something like 18 innings because the sun was setting directly behind the pitcher. The story made Sports Illustrated because effectively the game ended due to sunshine

I played once at a small town in Colo and we took about a 20 minute sun-delay.... I'll bet it was great for hot dog sales.

We have one, luckily it's only for SP, the eve sun is right there, good for 4-5 k's for about two innings. I've K'd there myself, on a check swing, pulled the flexer in my throwing arm I was done for a month. Beauty of a facility with 3 fields, but the royal engineer missed this one by a few degrees.

Maybe Jimmy remembers but there is or used to be, a minor league park that has a sun delay in the early season out west.....20 minutes as I remember to let the sun go down....
