My son has been invited to the Junior Sunbelt Classic in Oklahoma. He has been the past 2 years to the freshman and the sophmore part of this tournament each time helping Team Texas win. I want to know if any of your sons have attended this event as a junior, and if so, what was his experience like, and did he get a lot out of this. Our HS Coach says that there are lots of scouts that go to the junior event. Any opinions on this event?

It is regarded by many of "the real baseball guys" out there as the the best summer venue on the docket. cadKID#2 was not originally invited, but my old saying... "the guy that stays is the guy that plays" came into effect here. A twisted ankle on one of the invitees, and cadKID#2 got the nod for Team California.

The competition is the best in the country (from all quadrants), the environment of Host Families is FANTASTIC, and the overall experience... once in a lifetime. And yes there are a LOT of college guys there from all over the country.

Also on the agenda... potentially lots of thunderboomers... real ones. For those of you back East, you'll laugh at this... but our California kids don't experience really big, knock you out of bed lightning storms, until they go to Tornado Alley, or East Cobb.

Sunbelt Classic? You bet!!!

Go for it. But boom is right.

My son called me one day and said, "Guess what, I started in this game and was doing really well, but now we're under the stadium because there's a tornado watch!"

He's from Arizona where we have an occasional mild earthquake and maybe see a couple of dust devils but unlike his mom (me) who grew up in Iowa and knows all about twisters, this was a big rush for him.
I am not gonna lie.. I personally didn't enjoy the experience. More for reasons I don't want to get into. This involving playing time etc etc.. It was a kinda boring town (McAlester), but there wasn't really that much time to get too bored since we were always playing. There were a good amount of coaches there too.. Oh and the community LOVES baseball. Random people would show up just to watch, they would go crazy like a parent would. That was pretty fun to see them get into the game thats for sure.
