New format for D3. Same number of teams (58), but adding a Super Regional round. Should be interesting, and probably easier on the pitchers. Travel is always an issue for D3 championships as far as getting the best 8 teams to the CWS. I'm wondering how far the NCAA will send a team to a Super.
13 regionals with 4 teams (double elimination) and 3 regionals with 2 teams (best of 5 series).
8 super regionals with 2 teams (best of 3 series).

D2 is adding the Super Regionals as well. So all divisions will line up then. I love the Super Regional format--definitely tests the pitching depth of each team to earn their way to the CWS.
Love the super format. Although I'm not big on the region sizes being different. That doesn't seem to make much sense to me
yea I think it is a great idea. I know the players are all pretty happy with it. We know that the NCAA doesn't give a damn what any of the players think but they are happy with it. it is going to put a huge premium on starting pitching. In some years past the depth of a staff was more important then top end strength, I think you will see that change immediately. of course both is nice!
As far as distance. In the past when creating regionals it was 500 miles. Anything over required the NCAA to pony up for a flight. I would not be surprised if ti was the same for Super Regionals. Sometimes it made it tough out west.
